Continue ReadingThe Prep Hoops Circuit returned to the Valley of the Sun this weekend for the Hustle In The Sun. The event which featured 65 teams ranging from 15U to 17U took place at Inspire Courts in Gilbert Arizona. The event featured several players with the ability to get up and grab a board. In this article, we take a look at the top rebounders from the event.
Gideon Harris 6’2 SF D1 New Mexico 2023 (#2PHNM 2023) – For my money, Harris is the best undersized rebounder on the West Coast. He doesn’t have elite athleticism, isn’t that big, and won’t scare anyone with his frame. What he is, is persistent in his pursuit of the pumpkin. Harris always manages to come down with a board and grabs them both in traffic and out of area.
Tavionte Jackson Tavionte Jackson 6'1" | PG Las Vegas | 2022 NV 6’1 PG Hard 2 Guard 2022 (#2PHN 2022) – It’s his wingspan that makes him such a terrific rebounder. Jackson seems to always extend just a little higher than the next player, taking balls away from competing ops. He plays with a good motor as well, following his teammate’s shots in transition, grabbing the offensive board, and finishing.
Erenzo Scroggins Erenzo Scroggins 6'4" | SF AZ Compass Prep Black | 2023 State AZ 6’4 SF AZ Select 2023 (#37PHA 2023) – Scroggins is a man child of a rebounder. The SF is able to bully his way through people carving out space and grabbing in traffic rebounds. He displays the definition of getting the ball at it’s highest point, as the spectacular R&J athlete explodes off the ground for boards.
Jaylen Wesley Jaylen Wesley 6'4" | PF McClintock | 2022 State AZ 6’3 PF AZ Select 2022 (#92PHA 2022) – Wesley and Harris will be in constant competition for the top undersized rebounder categories. He does it with a consistent motor, max effort, and good hands. Could have been a glue guy candidate as well, however, he’s special in his singular skill of rebounding.
Jaevyn Yancey Jaevyn Yancey 6'7" | PF Eduprize | 2024 State AZ 6’6 PF AZ Select 2024 (#45PHA 2024) (featured image) – I really was impressed by Yancy. He runs the floor well and showed good overall skill this weekend. He’s more of a volume rebounder because of his size, however, he did show that he can come away with his share of boards in traffic. The freshmen forward is a name to keep on the radar.
