The event, which featured 65 teams ranging from 15U to 17U took place at Inspire Courts in Gilbert Arizona. Several players used their skills to hold their squads together. In this article, we take a look at the top glue guys from the event.
Erenzo Scroggins Erenzo Scroggins 6'4" | SF AZ Compass Prep Black | 2023 State AZ 6’4 SF AZ Select 2023 (#37PHA 2023) – AZ Select was dominant throughout the weekend, Scroggins was a big part of why. He wasn’t the leading scorer, but he was one of the top rebounders, defenders, and playmakers for the squad.
Manny Jefferies 6’2 SF Close Out 2022 – Jefferies was one of the bright spots for Close Out. He hustled and battled keeping balls alive for rebounds. On the defensive end, he was able to provide good on-ball and help-side defense.
Mitchell Perkins Mitchell Perkins 6'4" | PF Notre Dame Prep | 2024 State AZ 6’3 PF AZ Select 2024 – I got a full game look at Perkins and what stood out to me was his efficiency. He finished plays showing good hands and the ability to make clean catches. He rebounded in traffic, played solid low post defense, and ran the floor fluidly.
Issac Berry 6’4 SF Team ESBY 2022 – Berry is a smooth lefty with point forward skills. His ballhandling and playmaking was part of the glue that held his squad together this weekend. When their jitterbug PG wasn’t on the floor, ESBY would turn to Berry to initiate the offense. He was good in the open floor showing the ability to get to the rim.
Mark Clegg Jr Mark Clegg Jr 6'5" | SF Coolidge | 2022 State AZ 6’4 SG AZ Junior Ballers Black 2022 (featured image) – Clegg was terrific with his pace and playmaking. The first time I saw him, he was unguardable in 1 on 1 situations, showing the ability to freeze and get by defenders. The second time I saw him, he was drawing defenses, and creating opportunities for teammates. His backcourt versatility was a big part of holding AZJB together this weekend.
