The event which features 65 teams ranging from 15U to 17U takes place at Inspire Courts in Gilbert Arizona. Several players used the opening day, to showcase their talents. In this article, we take a look at the standouts from Day 1.
Shane Douma-Sanchez 6’0 PG ABC New Mexico 2023 (#5PHNM 2023) – SDS is an unassuming-looking player. I certainly didn’t expect him to be as savage as he was. The PG played with great confidence and made tough shot after tough shot. He was terrific shooting the ball off the bounce, showed quick hands in transition, and managed to score in transition.
Chance Westry 6’4 SG High Major 2022 (featured image) – One thing that every scout in the building agreed on, was the fact that Westry is a special offensive player. His handle and his wiggle allowed him to get anywhere he wanted on the floor. He was the ultimate paint touch getter on the day, finishing several shakes with thunderous dunks at the rim.
Tavionte Jackson Tavionte Jackson 6'1" | PG Las Vegas | 2022 NV 6’1 PG Las Vegas 2022 (#2PHN 2022) – Jackson used his crafty handle and wiggle to help H2G to a victory over its rival AZ Dream. He was able to get to the rim and showed the ability to finish in transition and in traffic. The Siena recruit is one of the most underrated PGs on the WC and showed why today.
Ahamed Mohamed Ahamed Mohamed 6'0" | PG Apollo | 2022 State AZ 6’0 PG AZ Factory 2022 (#32PHA 2022) – I was really impressed with Mohmed today. He does it on both ends. On the offensive end, he takes what the defense gives him, and then makes them pay for giving it to him. On the defensive end, he’s a dog, capable of locking up the opposing team’s best ballhandler. I thought he was terrific today for AZ Factory.
Brayden Gant Brayden Gant 6'5" | SF Phhoenix Prep | 2024 State AZ 6’4 SG AZ Junior Ballerz 2023 (#74PHA 2023) – The story of Gant’s day is a long one. The short version is, down by 12, the Sophomore SG decided to take matters into his own hand. He got to the rim, finishing everything leading his AZ Junior Ballerz team back from the deficit to a W. His ability to slash, blow by his defender and get around the rim was terrific, making him an easy candidate for Day 1 standouts.
