After watching as many 16u games as I possibly could, I found that there was an abundance of wing players that shined throughout the event. Here are the best wing prospects I witnessed showcase their skills this weekend.
F 6’7 Donovan Black Donovan Black 6'6" | PF Del Valle | 2023 State TX , 2023, D1 New Mexico: Donovan is slowly making the transition into a true wing player. He has improved his on-ball skills tremendously over the past 6 months and seems to have developed a much higher motor. I watched him grab a rebound push the ball coast to coast and finish over a defender with a euro step dunk, which really impressed me. Still more of a hybrid forward that will beat bigger guys off the dribble, and post up smaller defenders. Black had a great weekend at Hustle in the Sun helping D1 New Mexico to a 4-0 start.
W 6’6 Trey Brown Trey Brown 6'7" | SF Phhoenix Prep | 2023 State AZ , 2023, AZ Select UAA: Trey could be the most interesting prospect on the AZ Select UAA team. He has the ball skills to contribute at the guard position but is much more comfortable playing off the wing as a slasher, and defender at the moment. Brown has very long arms, is very quick, and has solid bounce! If he can develop a more consistent jump shot, and fine-tune his ball-handling skills he will emerge as one of the top players on the West Coast.
SF 6’4 Corbin Garver Corbin Garver 6'3" | CG Air Academy | 2023 State CO , 2023, Pluto Prospects: I love the way Garver plays, he will make any coach happy to have him on their team! He is a glue guy for a really good Pluto Prospects 2023 squad. He has a nonstop motor, and always seems to be fighting for possession of lose balls. He is a solid shooter who knocked down open threes all weekend, and defends opposing wing players pretty well. Every game I got to watch him he grew more and more on me!
SF 6’6 Arman Madi Arman Madi 6'7" | SF Brophy | 2023 State AZ , 2023, AZ Select UAA: Madi was one of my favorite players to watch this weekend, the kid has major upside, and always found a way to stand out. He can defend 2-4, knocks down open threes, and uses his size to get to the basket and finish through contact. He caught a few alley oops throughout the weekend showing off his athleticism, and was able to handle pressure with his ball handling ability.
SF 6’5 Royce Ramos Royce Ramos 6'5" | PF Rancho Solano Prep | 2023 State AZ , 2023, PAL Elite-1: Ramos was led the way for PAL Elite this weekend helping them to a 3-1 record. He did a great job at finishing in traffic over and through smaller defenders and knocked down a bunch of open 3pt shots. I also saw him finish several fast breaks with thunderous dunks, he is a big-bodied small forward with a solid handle that can just play bully ball out there.
W 6’3 Erenzo Scroggins Erenzo Scroggins 6'4" | SF AZ Compass Prep Black | 2023 State AZ , 2023, AZ Select UAA: Erenzo is one of the top run and jump players on the West Coast, and is a positionless player with a high motor that does everything for AZ Select UAA. The high flyer seems to always find himself in position for defensive rebounds, he can defend very well, finds the open man, and dunks everything in transition. Scroggins was one of the most intriguing prospects I watched this weekend and is a consistent jump shot away from being a top player on the West Coast.
