I got to watch a lot of 16u games this weekend, and was so impressed with the talent I saw that I had to form an All-Tournament team to highlight all of the special players at the event! Here is a look at the point guards I thought impressed the most throughout this weekend.
PG 6’2 Exodus Ayers Exodus Ayers 6'2" | CG La Cueva | 2023 NLG , 2023, Albuquerque Basketball Club: Exodus was one of the most intriguing point guard prospects this weekend. He stands closer to 6’3 with a 6’8 wingspan, is extremely quick, a very good defender, and is a very creative finisher at the rim. He is a great passer that is becoming more and more of a scorer. He helped lead ABC to a 4-0 record beating AZ Factory in one of the best games this weekend. The two-sport athlete should get division looks for basketball and football!
PG 6’1 Mark Brown Jr Mark Brown Jr 6'2" | PG Bella Vista Prep | 2023 State AZ ., 2023, AZ Select UAA: Brown did a tremendous job leading a loaded AZ Select team this weekend. He rarely turned the ball over, and always found his teammates in open spots with pin-point passes. Brown looks like a division 1 point guard standing around 6’1 and 175 pounds with sneaky bounce. He is very smooth working out of the P&R, gets downhill with ease, and is a great finisher at the rim. He stepped up big time in AZ Select’s closely contested win over Pluto Prospects.
PG 6’0 Isaiah Bronson Isaiah Bronson 6'2" | PG Phhoenix Prep | 2024 State AZ , 2024, AZ Factory: Bronson is clearly one of the top point guards in the class of 2024 out of Arizona. The lefty is tough to handle with the ball in his hands creating for himself and others. I watched him hit a ton of tough shots all weekend, and he always knocked the open jumper from beyond the arc. He has a lot of potential as a P&R playmaker, and will be a prospect to keep an eye on for the future!
PG 6’2 Vincent Delano Vincent Delano 6'1" | CG Bella Vista Prep | 2023 State #292 Nation AZ , 2023, AZ Select UAA: Delano was one of the best shooters throughout the 16u division, he also can finish above the rim and plays his butt off on defense. He can handle the ball well which allows him to get to the lane and find the open big down low or kick out to the open shooter on the wing. He is another really good guard on a AZ Select team that should make some noise nationally this summer!
PG 6’0 Shane Douma-Sanchez Shane Douma-Sanchez 6'0" | PG Del Norte | 2023 State NM , 2023, Albuquerque Basketball Club: SDS is very easy to underestimate, but once he has the ball in his hands you know the kid is a baller. He has a smooth handle that allows him to get to his spots on the floor and has an ability to knock down very tough shots. He impressed a lot of people this weekend and could be in for a huge summer.
PG 5’10 Gavin Hershberger Gavin Hershberger 5'9" | PG Rock Canyon | 2023 State CO , 2023, Pluto Prospects: Gavin was the pleasant surprise of the weekend! The undersized guard was tough as nails handling pressure with ease, and never getting flustered. He shot the ball very well from all over this weekend, and his confidence from beyond the arc is through the roof. He was a big-time playmaker, that helped Pluto Prospects consistently run their sets which led to a lot of half-court buckets.
