Here are the 2024s who made the biggest impact in the GRMC 16U ranks (in alphabetical order):
Devon Bolton, 6-foot guard, United Basketball, Shawnee Mission West:
Bolton fearlessly attacked bigger players all weekend, scoring at a high rate in every game. He has a high-grade handle and the afterburners to get through traffic and to the goal. Once in the lane, he’s got every kind of acrobatic shot in the book.
Mark Debiak, 6-foot-3 post, KC Spurs Black, Spring Hill HS:
While most of the players who played up were guards, Debiak is a big man who went to battle against older players. Debiak has a solid build and a developed post game. He plays with a calm demeanor that belies his ferocious attack of the goal and combativeness for rebounds. He has good hands and a variety of shots in the lane.
Jayce Glasper, 6-foot-2 guard, Wichita Magic, Trinity, HS:
A really talented guard/wing, Glasper can handle the ball and is athletic enough to impact every position on the court. His coaches praise his attitude and intensity. He can get into the lane and create shot opportunities, and is developing his perimeter game.
Jalen Grace, 5-foot-11 guard, KC Spurs Black, Olathe East HS:
Grace is a super-smooth point guard with a fine handle and craftiness. Unlike a lot of guards who are all about attacking the rim, Grace probes defenses for weak spots to get off his pull-up jumper or find an open teammate. He’s smart and creative with his distribution, showing a mature understanding of the game.
Devin Kemp, 5-foot-8 guard, DC Kings, Nixa HS:
One of the most entertaining players to watch in KC, Kemp is a little ball of energy who made some of the most fearless and impressive plays of the weekend. His handle and creativity are off the charts. He weaves in and out of traffic, making acrobatic shots and delivering the ball. He made some really impressive spin moves in the lane. He also showed he could come off screens to catch and shoot all the way out to the arc.
Rayvelle Leak, 5-foot-8 guard, Wichita Magic, Wichita East HS:
Leak excels at the defensive end. His on-ball work is disruptive, and produces a lot of turnovers. He brings a lot of intensity to go with his quickness. He brings that attacking attitude on offense, where he showed an outside shot and ability to drive and create.
Josh Peters, 6-foot-1 guard, DC Kings, Nixa HS:
Peters showed a combination of toughness in traffic and skill in the open court. Peters is a top-notch shooter. He hit from distance, but he was most impressive driving for pull-up jumpers. He made plays on the defensive end too, blocking shots and intercepting passes.
Gavin Schaag, 6-foot-2 Mentality Blue, Park Hill HS (pictured):
Schaag is a scorer. He buried a lot of 3-pointers over the weekend, but also showed ability to drive and score in the lane. Like a true scorer, he also draws fouls and gets to the line on aggressive dives to the basket. Schaag is a long wing with a smooth athleticism. He put up some big point totals in KC.
