LAKE BALBOA, Ca—Elliott —It was a riveting battle between two of the more talented teams in Southern California as Ribet Academy hung by a thread to defeat LA City power Birmingham 68-67. Super sophomore Mike Price Mike Price 6'2" | PG Corona Centennial | 2023 State #162 Nation CA-S (17-points) made two free throws to put the Fighting Frogs up for good despite the Patriots having numerous misses at the rim to win the game in the final moments. LMU signee David Elliott would lead the Patriots with 21-points.
Barrington Hargress Barrington Hargress 6'0" | PG Ribet Academy | 2022 CA-S (Ribet Academy)
2022, PG, 6-foot-1, 180 pounds
Joel’s Take: One of the best point guards on the West Coast in the Class of 2022 is Hargress. The physical point guard is a no-nonsense facilitator that plays both ends of the floor with intensity. He can carry defenders on his hip, attack the rim, and has a terrific floater game. He changes speeds when pressured tightly, shows a good burst, and he can finish through contact.
Jacquan Parchment (Birmingham)
2021, SG, 6-foot-3, 175 pounds
Joel’s Take: The best shooter in this game was no doubt Parchment. He drained 4 3s from the right corner and his release was quick. He showed a nice arc on his shot and he sets himself up well for the delivery. In addition, he provided a solid secondary ballhandler when Birmingham tightened up the full-court press in the 2nd half.
James Nobels (Birmingham)
2021, SG, 6-foot-5, 160 pounds
Joel’s Take: Along with Cook, Birmingham has a pair of high-flying wing-types with Nobels being the other. Nobels, who is headed to LMU, is a slashing scorer who has excellent body control, yet has improved his pull-up game as well. He tossed in a runner as well and his activity on the boards was impressive despite his slight frame.
Tyler Powell Tyler Powell 6'5" | SF Ribet Academy | 2021 State #130 Nation CA-S (Ribet Academy)
2021, WF, 6-foot-6, 210 pounds
Joel’s Take: Powell didn’t have his usual scoring output in this one, but the Seton Hall signee found other ways to contribute. He was physical on the boards and grabbed a clutch rebiound late in the contest to provide his team with another critical possession late. He is tough around the rim as he can use either hand and he can shoot the 3-ball as well.
