There was tons of talent from all over the DMV and Virginia, and had some very high level matchups and players from all age groups. We take a look at part four of the standouts, with a look at some of the top 16U performers from the event.
All of the games can be seen on the CBG Live Network here.
Samuel Brannen Samuel Brannen 6'0" | CG King’s Fork | 2023 State VA | 5’11” PG | Boo Williams 16U
The Boo 16U group continues to find success with their hard playing style and deep group that they have, and Brannen has been one of their x-factors off the bench for them with his steady play at the point guard position. He’s highly skilled and cerebral at the position, as he’s able to shoot it from deep at a high clip and is very good getting in the lane and making plays for others. Defensively, he guards the ball well and is always in help to take charges and he plays with a chip as well.
Justin Boggs | 6’1” CG | Boo Williams 16U
Boggs is one of the most impressive prospects on the BWSL group, as he scores it in a variety of ways and has good athleticism and a good feel for the game as well. He’s a lights out shooter from deep, he has a quick first step off the bounce and he can finish at and above the rim when he gets downhill. He has the capability to take over games with his scoring ability, and once he gets it going he can fill it up in bunches.
Josh Sime Josh Sime 6'8" | PF Western Albemarle | 2023 State VA | 6’7” PF | Boo Williams 16U
Sime continues to be the physical presence in the paint for the Boo 16U group, and the way that he’s improved over the course of the past few years bolds well for him as a division one prospect moving forward. His frame is filling out nicely and he continues to get more athletic allowing him to contest shots and finish above the rim, and he shows good toughness in the paint as he isn’t afraid to get physical with other bigs. He plays with a good motor and rebounds on both ends, and he has good touch out to about 18 feet as well.
AJ Clark AJ Clark 6'2" | SG Menchville | 2023 State VA | 6’2” CG | Boo Williams 16U
Clark has as much potential as anyone on this Boo group, and he showed flashes of brilliance this past weekend using his athleticism to make some big time plays. Clark has long limbs and is a dynamic athlete as he thrives in transition where he has great end-to-end speed and when he gets downhill he’s able to play way above the rim. He’s likely still growing and has good creativity off the bounce, and he has tons of potential on the defensive end as well.
Jadon Pace | 6’4” WF | Boo Williams 16U
Pace is one of the many weapons off the bench for Boo’s team as he can come into the game and make an immediate impact on both ends with his length and ability to make shots from deep. He’s a consistent threat from beyond the arc as he is always working to get open and can ring off multiple in a row from deep, and he has great confidence in his ability from behind the arc. His size and length keeps him from being a liability on the defensive end too as he can guard multiple positions and get a lot of deflections as well.
Aiden Harris | 6’4” WF | DMV Stags 16U
Harris was one of the top scorers in the 16U division, as he showed the ability to score from all over the court and a different style to his game that was very tough to guard. He’s kind of like that guy at the Y that you can’t figure out how to guard, as he’ll spray it from deep, then post you in the midrange and hit a contested fadeaway and then he’s always around the ball when it’s in the paint. He isn’t the most athletic guy but he just has a simple knack for scoring the basketball.
Jack Murphy | 5’9” PG | NOVA 94 FT 16U
Murphy is a very underrated guy who plays on a talented St. Stephen’s St. Agnes team and is a true floor general that runs the show and makes everyone on his team better. While he isn’t the biggest or most athletic guy he sees the game a play or two ahead of everyone else, he has good passing ability with both hands and he’s able to get in the lane and make shots when he needs to. He also is a star soccer player and he has great footwork on both ends of the floor.
