There was tons of talent from all over the DMV and Virginia, and had some very high level matchups and players from all age groups. We take a look at part three of the standouts, with a look at some of the top 17U performers from Virginia.
All of the games can be seen on the CBG Live Network here.
Elliot Black | 6’6” PF | District Basketball Club 17U
Black was one of the most productive guys for a DBC team that went 2-0 on the weekend in the Super Pool, and his mix of physicality, skill and athleticism makes him a very tough guy to match up with for anyone. He’s a strong and high motor forward who thrives when he’s able to attack the basket and finish above the rim in traffic, and he’s a very good shooter out to the three-point line, primarily from the elbows and the short corner. He brings it on both ends every time he’s on the floor and was a big reason they beat some very good teams this weekend.
Curtis Allen Curtis Allen 6'2" | SF Prince George | 2022 State VA | 6’1” WG | VA Havoc 17U
One of the most underrated guys in the Richmond area, Allen is a big and strong wing that can really shoot the ball from deep and fill it up when he gets it going. He’s worked on his body a lot over the past few years and is very strong on the defensive end, he’s a good athlete who can explode around the basket and he’s a deadly threat from deep. He’s set to have a big senior season for Prince George based on the way he’s played recently.
Ty’Heim Love | 6’1” CG | Team Loaded 804 17U
Love was one of the top scorers in the 17U division, and the Petersburg guard is also looking like a one of the most underrated guys in the Richmond area as well. He’s grown a few inches over the past few years giving him good size at the point guard position, and he’s a very talented shot creator and maker from multiple levels. He showed takeover ability as he made shots from deep, found his way to the line often and was able to finish through contact at the rim and in the midrange.
Marquey Pixley | 5’8” PG | NOVA Suns 17U
Pixley isn’t the biggest guy but he made a huge impact for the Suns when I watched them against a good Runnin’ Mavs team as he’s a true PG that sets the tone on both ends and can create shots for himself and others off the bounce. He plays at a small private school in NOVA in Word of Life Academy, and he’s the exact type of guard that can run a team and win you basketball games. He can guard the ball 94 feet, he lives in the lane with his shiftiness and quickness and he can create space and make shots from deep as well.
Jaden Daughtry Jaden Daughtry 6'6" | SF Benedictine College Prep | 2022 VA | 6’5” WF | BWSL Marsh 17U
Daughtry continues his tear this summer with Marsh as one of the top scorers in the state, and his size and mismatch ability is one of the biggest reasons why. At 6’5”, he has a strong build and is a very good athlete that thrives in transition where he can handle it and play above the rim regularly. He plays with a good motor and handle and create off the bounce, he can make shots from deep when he gets it going and he’s a very good rebounder for his size as well.
Bryson Kitrell | 5’10” PG | BWSL Marsh 17U
Kitrell is one of the top available guards in the 2021 class that D2 and D3 programs should be all over, as he’s highly skilled and is a dual threat that can score it and make plays for others with ease. He’s very fundamental as he has a tight handle and good footwork when he gets in the lane, he has deep range and can light it up from deep and he makes good reads when he gets in the lane. He’s a cerebral and skilled guy that can score in bunches and he’ll do whatever it takes to help his team win.
Ja’Mais Wertz Ja’Mais Wertz 6'7" | PF Life Christian Academy | 2022 VA | 6’7” PF | VA Havoc 17U
Another available 2021, Wertz and his Havoc team put on a show in their final game where they blew out NOVA 94 Ft and Wertz was the leading scorer. At 6’7”, he’s a guy who has improved a ton over the last few years and is capable of impacting the game as a scorer, rebounder and a defender with his size. At 6’7” he’s long and athletic, rebounds in traffic on both ends and has improved immensely in his ability to make shots from deep when set.
Xzavier Long Xzavier Long 6'6" | PF VA Academy | 2021 State VA | 6’5” WF | DC Premier 17U
If we’re talking about the best available 2021 guys, Long may have been the best in the building as the 6’5” wing is a bonafide division one player that someone needs to get on. The 6’5” wing can do a little bit of everything for his team as he can play and guard multiple positions, he has the ability to handle it and make plays for others and he’s an athletic finisher and rebounder as well. He’s a highly skilled all-around wing who can make an immediate impact at the next level and will only continue to improve with time.
