We’re traveling out to Lehigh Valley and the Colonial League to recap what was a jam-packed season of action and competition. Part one of this season recap starts with the best players in the East Division.
Brendan Boyle – G, Notre Dame-Green Pond
Boyle was the unquestionable leader on this Notre Dame team, one that took the crown in the East Division, finishing with a 15-4 record, 6-1 record in league play and with an offense that scored over 75.0 PPG this season. The junior guard was electric on the court, averaging 25.3 PPG, just over three made three-pointers a game and shot 80 percent from the foul line during the 2021 season. He was the engine, along with senior Logan Rickert, that supplied the energy for this team. Along with incredible range on his shooting and a fantastic knack for getting to the rim, his 7.1 APG was one of the highest in the league. Boyle is a fantastic passer and he’s going to keep getting better with his senior season coming up this fall.
CJ Miles – G/F, Bangor
Miles was one of the most high octane players in the Colonial League this season, averaging 25.8 PPG, 2.8 made threes a game and a 79 percent free throw percentage while receiving All-State honors and helping guide Bangor to the PIAA District XI title for the first time in over 30 years. Miles was the key to Bangor’s success, a fantastic guard with a knack for scoring just about anywhere on the offensive end. He is as electric as they come, and reclassifying to the 2022 class after this season, Miles will get another year to shine on the high school stage before his college career begins.
Liam Carey – G/F, Palisades
Carey had a fantastic junior season for Palisades, who struggled overall, but kept pace in the East. The guard was one of the best free throw shooters in the league this season, shooting 87 percent from the line, and he was one of two players who recorded double-digit scoring averages in 2021, averaging 15.2 PPG. Palisades had a balanced outside shooting attack, and Carey was the second-best three-point shooter on the team, knocking down just over one a game. He’s shown his worth as a shooter and a scorer, someone with fantastic range around the floor and a noted playmaker. Carey will be one of the players to watch in the Colonial next season.
Na’shawn Jones – F/G, Wilson Area
Jones is our first forward to appear on this list, but he showed that he is one of the best in the conference despite Wilson Area playing a shortened, 11-game season. He averaged 11.0 PPG and nine made field goals a game as the main interior presence for Wilson Area in 2021. He’ll reprise that role come the 2021-22 season, but we saw a great deal of growth out of Jones to become a fearsome interior player and a great defender. He has time to hone in on his defense, but the strides he took coming into this season showed in a big way.
Logan Rickert – G/F, Notre Dame-Green Pond
Rickert had a fantastic senior send-off for Notre Dame this season, averaging over 17.3 PPG and 1.7 made threes a game while shooting 75 percent from the foul line. He showed great growth coming into this season, and he was one of the best pure scorers in the conference overall. Rickert had some fantastic help this season from a well-balanced Notre Dame squad, but he was a crucial part to the team’s success, knocking down key shots down the stretch. His best game was a 28-point performance in an 84-76 win over Bangor, one of the best in the division this season.
