PHP has already taken a look at the best players in the conference in this multi-part series, so now, it’s time to take a look at the best teams throughout the Colonial this season.
Notre Dame-Green Pond
Notre Dame turned the dial up a notch coming into this season, coming off a 15-12 season where they hovered around .500 for most of the season. In 2021, it was a completely different story as ND-GP went 15-4 on its way to reaching the championship of the Colonial League and District 11 Class 3A tournaments, beating strong opponents along the way like Bangor and Southern Lehigh. Junior Brendan Boyle and senior Logan Rickert were the unquestionable leaders of this team, averaging a combined 44.1 PPG and shooting 78.6 percent from the foul line. With Boyle returning next season, Notre Dame is going to be a team to watch for sure.
Bangor
While Notre Dame-Green Pond reached the championship game, it was Bangor who got the last laugh, winning the Colonial League Tournament in a high-scoring, 83-75 championship game. Bangor went onto win the District 11 Class 5A tournament as well, bowing out in the PIAA Class 5A state quarterfinals to Archbishop Ryan. This team was no joke, with seniors CJ Miles and Gabe Zieba leading the way. Sophomore Josh Giaquinto was a welcomed revelation on this team as he’ll be relied upon to carry much of the load that Miles and Zieba will be leaving behind come next season. Sophomore Justin Petersen and junior Dan Heald will be names to watch out for as impact players this winter.
Northwestern Lehigh
After starting out 0-2 this season, Northwestern Lehigh turned the corner, finishing with a 12-4 record before the postseason, where they bowed out in the semifinals of the Colonial League and District 11 Class 4A tournaments, respectively. The Tigers have a lot of firepower coming back for next season in junior Dylan Witkowski and sophomore Cayden Fitch, who averaged nearly 20.0 PPG combined in 2021. This program prides itself on defense, so if Witkowski and Fitch, plus players like sophomore Cade Christopher and junior Justin Holmes can produce like they did this season, get ready to witness even more dominance in 2021-22.
