PHP continues its multi-part season recap series in the West Division, taking a look at the best players in a tough, seven-team division that was a close race among the top four teams.
Quintin Stephens – G, Salisbury
Stephens had a strong senior season for Salisbury, who finished 12-7 overall with a 4-2 divisional record in 2021. He averaged 13.2 PPG and knocked down nearly one three-pointer a game this season, improving in a big way from his junior season. The senior guard really came into his own and quickly became the unquestionable leader of this squad. Stephens put up a season-high 27 points and went 10-for-14 from the foul line in a dominant win over Saucon Valley on January 30, which showcased the fantastic season he would end up having. Stephens is going to be missed by Salisbury next season.
Kody Kratzer – F/G, Palmerton
Kratzer was one of the most dominant players in the division and the conference during the 2021 season and his biggest asset was his ability to get to the foul line. The senior averaged nearly 7.5 free throw attempts per game this season, a big reason why he averaged a career-high 20.5 PPG. Kratzer is good in every facet of his game, from a fantastic interior presence to a sharp shooter on the outside to great defense with great agility. He’s everything you’re looking for in a versatile playmaker, and he showed that in a big way this season.
Daryl Coleman Daryl Coleman 6'4" | SG Southern Lehigh | 2021 State PA – G/F, Southern Lehigh
Coleman made the most of what ended up being a shortened senior season for Southern Lehigh, showing a great level of poise, maturity and an incredible all-around playmaking ability. He averaged 16.1 PPG and nearly 1.4 made threes a game while shooting 73.3 percent from the foul line, getting there 4.6 times a game. This Southern Lehigh squad featured a balanced offense, and Coleman was the spine of the team from the start. A member of the 1000 point club and winner of several championships in his time at Southern Lehigh, Coleman is a key piece this program will need to prioritize filling next season, but one player below will help patch that hole.
Dylan Witkowski – G/F, Northwestern Lehigh
Witkowski was one of the best sharp-shooters in the conference last season and will be a player to watch out for beyond the arc come next season. He averaged 10.1 PPG and 1.8 made threes a game, one of two perimeter shooters that are going to make Northwestern Lehigh a formidable team to guard on the wing. The junior led the team in scoring and was second in three-point shooting in 2021, but a lot will be expected out of Witkowski after his crafty ability to get through defenses in the lane and create space for himself when shooting. He’s a great catch-and-shoot player and that will be on display come this fall and winter.
Matt Tankred – F/G, Southern Lehigh
Tankred, with Coleman having graduated this year, will be the player to watch on Southern Lehigh and all eyes will be on him for good reason after a fantastic 2021 season. He averaged 13.6 PPG and knocked down over 5.1 two-point field goals on the year. He recorded three 20-point games in 2021, including a season-high 28 points in a 59-50 win over Salisbury on February 8. Despite playing in just 13 games as Southern Lehigh had a shortened schedule, he made the most of his time on the court and his interior presence will shine come next season.
