College Commitment: Micah Colburn (2021 Damascus Christian)
Micah Colburn Micah Colburn 6'1" | CG Damascus Christian | 2021 State OR is thoroughly enjoying his senior year of high school. One of the reasons why? The tough 5-foot-11, 165-pound guard from Damascus Christian has his college future all set. Coburn is going to be playing college basketball out-of-state at Lincoln Christian in Illinois and he’s looking forward to making the move to the Midwest.
“I really didn’t want to stay out in Portland and wanted to explore the world,” Colburn said. “Lincoln Christian really wanted me there. I went out and visited and they really liked me and I really liked the school and I decided I wanted to go there.”
Colburn, who had gotten some interest from a number of schools in the Pacific Northwest, was really active in trying to find something in different parts of the country. The connection was Lincoln Christian was made and the visit to campus really sealed the deal.
“I really like the coach, Coach Mac (Ingmire) is really nice to me,” Coburn said. “I’m from a small town so I really liked the town and the campus and the atmosphere. The players that I met were really nice to me and it really drew me in.”
Colburn, also a standout track athlete in the pole vault, actually moved to the Portland area after growing up in Trout Lake, Washington. He made an impact immediately last season at Damascus Christian. He’s a hard-nosed guard that can score and pass – and it’s his combination of those skills that Lincoln Christian is hoping he will contribute to the team immediately.
“They want me to play point guard and be more of a scoring guard, which I think I am,” Colburn said. “They said I can come in and make an impact and that’s what I’m there to do.”
Colburn noted that he wants to keep on improving his shooting and ball-handling, things he’s been working on this past year by himself and by playing with a club team called 1A Express that was competitive in tournaments in Idaho and against some large school teams such as Barlow and Gresham. He’ll get more opportunities this upcoming season, one in which he’s been waiting on for a long time.
“Oh man, I’m super excited,” Colburn said. “Our team is going to be pretty good and I’m just excited that we’re having (the season) really after this long year break.
