Now that the High School season has concluded I would like to breakdown the top players in each class by position to help give insight on whats to come in our new player rankings! Here are the top point guards from the Class of 2021.
Evan Gonzales Evan Gonzales 5'10" | PG Cleveland | 2021 State NM , Cleveland: Evan finished his career a state champion, leading Cleveland as the primary playmaker and secondary scoring option for much of the season. He is usually the most overlooked out of the tremendous Storm trio, but not this season, as all three player will be in contention for an All-State team. It will be fun to see where he ends upo with interest coming from Montana State, and a few division 2 programs.
Devin Domina-Lovato Devin Domina-Lovato 6'0" | CG El Dorado | 2021 NM , El Dorado: Lovato did not finish his senior season the way he would have wanted, but he still proved that he is one of the best guards in the state! I have not heard of any rumors of colleges reaching out recently, but I believe Devin could use one year of development and exposure to allow him to garner more college interest. A very underrated player out of this state that can score with the best of them. 1st team All District selection.
Cruz Martinez Cruz Martinez 5'9" | PG Santa Fe | 2021 State NM , Santa Fe: Cruz helped the Demons secure the 8 seed in this years playoffs. He is probably the most consistent playmaker in the state right now rarely turning the ball over, and always setting up his teammates for success, a solid shooter with very good handle. He is another kid that we will have to wait and see what happens for his future, college coaches should dial, but he could need another year of development and exposure. 1st team All-District selection.
Andrew Miller, Carlsbad: Miller led the Cavemen to a hard earned 7 seed in this years playoffs. The team was unable to compete due to covid, but they finished the season strong on a 5 game win streak. Miller was a consistent playmaker for Carlsbad all season, and was selected to the All-District team.
Isaiah Lewis Isaiah Lewis 6'0" | PG Hobbs | 2021 State NM , Hobbs: Lewis was a sleeper entering the season, but the athletic point guard is lighting quick and deceptively bouncy! He averaged 9 points and 2 assists per game for the Eagles as the secondary playmaker to Jalen Goar Jalen Goar 5'11" | CG Hobbs | 2022 State NM . A defensive minded point guard that showed a lot of senior leadership this season helping the group push through a very difficult season where they barely missed the playoffs.
Isaiah Brooks Isaiah Brooks 6'0" | CG Atrisco Heritage | 2021 State NM , Atrisco Heritage: Brooks lit the state up this year with averages of over 20 points, and 4 assists per game. He definitely placed himself in the conversation for 1st team All State consideration, and scored a season high 31 points against Sandia to help Atrisco reach the Final Four for the 3rd time in his career. I believe he will get an offer from one of the local division 2 programs here soon, but we will have to wait who he chooses to continue his academic and athletic careers with!
