Continue ReadingThis fun tournament consisted of teams from North Dakota and Minnesota. ECI and West Central United put on the tournament. The 16U tournament was played at Concordia Moorhead. It was a great venue to watch games in, and I am sure the athletes loved playing there as well. ECI 16U Prospects took home the championship. They are coached by Tanner Purintun who does a great job with his team.
In this article, we will look at the top players from the 16U division and name the All-Tournament Teams for Border Battle 2021:
1st Team
Zach Kraft Zach Kraft 6'2" | PG Grand Forks Red River | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-1 G| ECI Prospects/Grand Forks Red River – Zach is playing extremely well right now. He has emerged as a primary scorer for the Prospects. He is shooting the lights out and creating shots for others as well. Zach is also proving to be a very good defender. He has quick feet and quality footwork when prepping for a shot. Kraft got his shot off quickly this weekend and his form always looks the same. He is consistent, that is what makes him a successful shooter. Besides shooting, he handles the rock well and he finds his open teammates.
Isaiah Schafer Isaiah Schafer 6'1" | CG Bismarck Century | 2024 State ND (2024) |6-1 G| ECI Prospects/Bismarck Century – Isaiah continues to make big plays for this team. He scored at all 3 levels and created several shots for other people. He is an exciting young guard with a high basketball IQ. Schafer takes care of the ball and he makes his teammates better. I suspect him to be one of the best young guards in the WDA next season. Look for him to continue to take strides forward as the AAU season progresses.
Adam Jenkins Adam Jenkins 6'9" | C Moorhead | 2023 State MN (2023) |6-8 F| ECI Prospects/Moorhead – Adam was dominant this weekend. He disrupted several shots and pulled down a ton of rebounds. He also scored at will, despite being double-teamed all weekend. He is another ECI big-man that passes the ball well. I was impressed with how well he gets up and down the floor. Jenkins has a bright future ahead of him with the Spuds.
Jack Manning Jack Manning 6'5" | C Thief River Falls | 2023 State MN (2023) |6-5 F| West Central United/Thief River Falls – He shouldered a large load of scoring for his squad. Jack is a physical and intense player. I never saw him take a possession off. Jack is a fiery forward that D’s up and owns the boards. His enthusiasm is contagious. It seemed like he was the heartbeat of his team. I like his flexibility on the offensive end. He scored on the block and in the paint with a variety of moves. Manning can cash in the 15-foot jumper. He also looks to be a capable shooter from beyond the arc. Jack had a splendid weekend at the Border Battle.
Max Froslie Max Froslie 6'8" | PF Fargo Davies | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-7 F| ECI Selects Hanson/Fargo Davies – He was able to stretch the floor with his range from the three-point arc. Max disrupted many shots on the defensive end. He is generous with sharing the basketball. With his height, he could force shots and shoot over defenders. Instead, he takes high percentage shots and he moves the ball to get teammates involved. He was a tough matchup this weekend with his size, athleticism, and ball skills.
2nd Team
Raymond Brown Raymond Brown 5'11" | PG Fargo Davies | 2023 State ND (2023) |5-10 G| ECI Prospects/Fargo Davies
Reis Rowekamp Reis Rowekamp 6'4" | SG Grand Forks Red River | 2023 State ND (2023) |6-2 G| ECI Prospects/Grand Forks Red River
Micah Thompson (2023) |6-5 F| West Central United/Perham
Rylan Lason (2023) |6-0 G| ECI Selects/Moorhead
Kyler Card (2023) |5-11 G| ECI Selects Schafer/Hawley
