A two day event featuring teams from all over the east coast, it was an excellent opportunity to see some of the top independent programs in the VA and DMV area, and there were tons of talented teams and individuals in attendance.
I was streaming and broadcasting the games with the CBG Live Network on the championship court, and you can see all the games on that court here.
Here’s a look at part three of the standouts, featuring some of the top 17U players from the DMV and more.
Kyle Gaskins Kyle Gaskins 6'1" | PG Coolidge | 2022 State MD | 5’11” PG | Global Squad 17U
Gaskins was phenomenal this weekend, as the Coolidge guard showed his ability to create shots for himself and others and run the show with the ball in his hands. He’s extremely crafty when he has the rock and plays with great pace allowing him to create shots for himself and others, and he showed the ability to score in multiple ways and from multiple levels. He can drill it from deep with good range, he he an excellent pull-up and he sees the floor well when he gets in the lane.
Khrys Murray | 6’3” WG | SMM 17U
Murray and his SMM squad came down from Delaware, and the 6’3” wing out of Philly showed a great all around game with his good athleticism and ability to score it in bunches, He’s a wing with good size and made plays as he got downhill and to the rim, he showed the ability to make shots from deep and he was consistent on both ends of the floor. He’s a dynamic athlete and has great potential on the defensive end, and he’ll be an underrated guy in the Philly area to keep an eye on.
Jordan Butler | 6’6” F | DH2B 17U
The versatile forward from Salisbury did a little bit of everything to help his team out, and his ability to play both in the paint and on the perimeter makes him a very intriguing prospect moving forward. He’s an excellent athlete that can guard multiple positions and rebounds well, he’s a quick leaper who can follow his own misses and he’s able to both post guys up and put it on the deck and get to the rim as well. He’s not the guy who’s going to lead the team in scoring but his ability to play multiple positions and impact the game in multiple ways makes him very intriguing.
Clarence Obiajulu Clarence Obiajulu 6'7" | C National Christian | 2021 State MD | 6’7” PF | Global Squad 17U
Obiajulu is one of the top available big men in the DMV area, and he was excellent for Global Squad as their inside presence that provided physicality and a scoring punch in the post. He knows exactly what he is, a strong and athletic forward that gets it done in the paint and can outmuscle guys in the paint, and he doesn’t try to do what he isn’t good at. He’s patient and smart in the post, he’s an athletic finisher and he does all of the dirty work to help his team.
Kyle Pulliam Kyle Pulliam 6'3" | SG Good Counsel | 2022 State MD | 6’4” WF | Global Squad 17U
Pulliam was the guy who had the hot hand for Global Squad for many of their games, and the lefty out of Good Counsel looks like he’s one of the top underrated prospects in the WCAC. He’s a smooth lefty that can flat out shoot it from deep at a very high rate, he can put it on the deck and get to spots and he showed the ability to make big shots that are contested when his team needs him to. He’s an alpha scorer and shooter, and he is set to have a big season for Good Counsel this year.
Tim Conner | 6’1” CG | Global Squad 17U
Conner was one of the top reserves for this Global Squad group, and he was effective as both a knockdown shooter and a ball handler. He’s a guy who can handle pressure and get them into their sets, makes good decisions and can pass with both hands and has a good IQ to the game. He’s also able to move off the basketball where he can make shots at a high clip from deep.
