I’ve written about Holmes in a few other articles, but the Hibbing unsigned senior was outstanding for PM North Showcase, scoring 28 points in their win over Next Generation. He’s a 6-1 off-ball guard with a quick release and extended range. He moves well off the ball to find spaces in the defense, and he’s a great shooter. He used his quick shooting start to open up the rest of his offense, showing the ability to get to the rim where he’s a creative finisher. He’s an efficient scorer who takes good shots and can fill it up from all three levels.
2022 Payton Thomsen Payton Thomsen 6'2" | PG Spring Lake Park | 2022 State MN (MSP Elite/Spring Lake Park)
Thomsen got a bit overshadowed by a few of his Spring Lake Park teammates in MSP’s win, but he was really strong as a scorer. A 6-2 wing, he embraces physicality, getting to the bucket and embracing the contact, finishing through it routinely. He looks to attack the rim both in the halfcourt and in transition. He’s a high IQ player who moves well off the ball, making strong basket cuts for easy looks.
2022 Sam Kuseske Sam Kuseske 6'6" | PF Rosemount | 2022 State MN (MN Select Mantey/Rosemount)
A long, 6-6 wing, Kuseske runs the floor hard in order to get easy transition buckets. In the halfcourt, he uses his length and long strides to get to the rim, and he’s incredibly active on the offensive glass. He has the ability to score from all three levels with efficiency.
2022 Jasper Timm Jasper Timm 6'3" | SG Duluth Marshall | 2022 State MN (Starks Elite/Duluth Marshall)
Timm was probably the second most impressive player I saw over the weekend after Holmes. The 6-3 wing stood out with his efficiency in his scoring from all three levels. He plays with pace and can get to the rim, and he’s a knockdown shooter off the catch.
2022 Ryan Warren Ryan Warren 6'2" | SG Eden Prairie | 2022 State MN (E1T1 Premier/Eden Prairie)
A lefty who can really get to the rim, Warren uses his physicality to bully his way to the paint for bucket after bucket. He’s a good ball-handler with a strong frame who loves to attack. He’s not a great shooter, but he’s capable of knocking down an occasional 3 when he has the space.
