The event took place at Inspire courts, Friday, April 30th through Sunday, May 2nd, and showcased a total of 67 teams ranging from ages 15 to 17U. Some players used the event to showcase their value to their teams. In this article, we take a look at the top Glue Guys from the event.
Jalon Blackwell 5’8 PG Emerald City 2023 – Blackwell could have easily made my top defenders list. He was solid when defending ballhandlers. I thought he was best as a glue guy, because of his ability to provide backup ballhandling and perimeter scoring for his club.
Jason Ernest Jason Ernest 6'7" | PF Paradise Honors | 2022 State AZ 6’7 PF Arizona Factory 2023 – Ernest was an absolute Bull. He managed to get 20 points a game simply off of activity and effort. Ernest managed to grab some tough in traffic rebounds in a game against AZ Firestorm and showed the willingness to rim run, consistently beating opposing bigs down the floor.
Malachi Murrell 6’2 SF Gamepoint 2022 (#112PHSC 2022) (featured image) – I’ve seen Murrell play quite a bit over the last year. I thought this weekend was a 1% improvement weekend for him. He played with great energy and effort, and managed to do what he does best which is be a pest on the defensive end, and get out and finish in transition.
AJ Seumonu 6’2 SF AZ Firestorm 2023 – Seumonu was one of my favorite players to watch. The pony-tailed wonder showed that he can do just about anything. He scored on the block, rebounded ferociously, and in the game against the Colorado Rising stars, managed to knock down his share of 3’s.
Osvaldo Biebrich Osvaldo Biebrich 6'6" | C Desert Pines | 2023 State NV 6’6 PF Las Vegas Olympians 2023 (#25PHN 2023) – Loved Oz this weekend. He battled against some pretty good bigs and held his own. Biebrich was able to rebound in traffic and provide solid low post defense for LVO this weekend. In addition, he found several buckets around the rim simply by remaining consistently active.
Jackson Gallagher 6’0 PG Colorado Titans Gold 2022 – It’s odd, because you don’t usually think of shooters as glue guys, but IMO that’s what Jackson was. He served as a quality floor spacer for the TItans throughout the weekend, however, he didn’t stop at making shots. The PG played some hard-nosed defense, especially when guarding the ball, and scrapped and clawed for loose balls.
