The event took place at Inspire courts, Friday, April 30th through Sunday, May 2nd, and showcased a total of 67 teams ranging from ages 15 to 17U. The event was a great opportunity for some backcourt players to showcase their versatility, In this article, we take a look at the top Combo Guards from the event.
Jamir Stephens Jamir Stephens 6'1" | CG Desert Pines | 2022 State NV 6’1 Las Vegas Olympians 2022 (#12PHN 2022) – Stephens will also be on my sleeper list. He’s the ultimate team guy, willing to do anything for the W. This weekend that ranged from defending to scoring and handling. I thought he played well on-ball defense, and as always, showed that he can get out in transition and score.
Dalton Peterson 6’3 Wyoming Power Lester 2022 – Peterson spent a good majority of the time playing on the ball, however, he was his most effective when he was either slashing or getting out and finishing in transition. In addition to being a dual backcourt player, he was also one of the top high academic performers from the event.
Andrew Camacho Andrew Camacho 6'1" | CG Peoria | 2023 State AZ 6’1 AZ Firestorm 2023 (#22PHA) – Comacho scored well this weekend. He played with a ridiculous amount of confidence, often times pulling up in transition for dagger threes. He protected the ball well and showed that he was able to get buckets in the lane and behind the arc.
Jacob Rice 6’2 Queen Creek 2021 – Rice just kept attacking downhill. He has a surprisingly quick first step, allowing him to blow by defenders. He combines that with amazing body control. He got hammered on several drives to the bucket, yet managed to keep his chin on the rim, play through contact and finish.
Nate Simon 6’0 Multi-Level 2023 – Simon is a bucket. He’s managed to put up huge numbers in every game on the circuit. He’s one of my good at every not great at any offensive players. He’s dangerous enough that you can’t leave him alone from outside and just quick enough to get by pressure. He handles it well, but his calling is changing the scoreboard with his ability to create for himself.
Jake Lifgren Jake Lifgren 6'2" | CG Centennial | 2022 State AZ 6’2 AZ Factory 2022 – I saw this kid play back in the fall, and he seemed to carry his entire team. Even with more help around him this weekend, he managed to stand out as a scorer. Shoots it, and can get to the cup, the 6’2 guard was one of the toughest covers for anyone on the weekend.
