The event, which takes place at the Tarkanian Basketball Academy, runs from Friday, May 28th and concludes on Saturday, May 29th. In this article, we take a look at some of the standouts from Day 1.
Jake Pike 6’7 SF Houston, TX 2023 – Pike is an athletic lefty with fluid lateral movement and good ball skills. He attacked the rim all day, while simultaneously showing the ability to create plays for teammates. Pike impressed all the coaches in attendance, including Carrol College which is quoted as being “extremely interested” in the c/o 2023 prospect. Pike is a 4.0 student that has already scored 1390 on his SAT’s.
Angel Sonnier 5’11 PG Houston, TX 2023 – Sonnier was one of the top PG’s at the event. He was a terror on the defensive end, getting deflections and steals, and turning them into easy baskets. On the offensive side of the ball, he showed good quickness and blow-by ability, getting to the rim off the bounce, and using his float game when he couldn’t get all the way to the rim. The jitterbug PG is 3.6 student.
Immanuel Reed Immanuel Reed 5'7" | PG Sierra Vista | 2024 State NV 5’7 PG Las Vegas, NV 2024 (featured image) – Reed was extremely productive on the day. He played with good pace and mixed up driving to the basket, with mid-range shots. He was solid on the defensive end as well, not allowing anyone to get by him off the dribble. The young freshmen stood out, despite playing against older, stronger players.
Kaden Holdbrook 6’2 SG Asheville, NC 2023 – Holdbrook was the best shooter on the day, every time I turned around he was making another shot. He made some in catch in shoot, but he was at his best when he could stop and pop in transition. His pull-up was nice and it allowed him to standout. The North Carolina native is a 3.5 student.
Jesse Fuller 6’5 PF Houston, TX 2023 – Fuller grew on me throughout the day. He showed decent athletic ability, good hands and a knack for catching and making interior passes. He has a solid frame which allowed him to dominate down low in the games I saw. The Houston native is a 3.6 student.
Tyler Shipp Tyler Shipp 6'5" | SF Foothill | 2022 ID 6’5 SF Henderson, NV 2022 – It is very possible Shipp played himself into a college career today. Several coaches I spoke with were impressed with his length and skill. It was easy to see why. The 6’5 wing was efficient driving to the basket and making plays for his teammates. He showed some Alpha tendencies, taking over and attacking whenever the ball touched his hands. Shipp is a 3.8 student, that scored a 25 on his ACT.
