This national qualifier brought a variety of teams from the Pittsburgh area a few hours away to participate in the event. The brackets were loaded from the high school level down to the youth age groups. Many competitive high school games showcased a good amount of top performers from the WPIAL and other parts of the Pennsylvania coverage area. It was impressive to watch a few teams challenge themselves and play up in age groups to give their players that extra boost in competition. Let’s take a look at some standouts from the action-filled weekend…
Class of 2023:
Khalil Horton / Cathedral Prep High School
- AAU Team: Wildcat Select 3SSB
- 6’8 wing forward
- A state champion in high school, this super sophomore will be on major college radar soon
- Khalil is an extremely talented basketball player who is fun to watch every time he steps on the court
Isaiah Boice / New Castle High School
- AAU Team: Prospects
- 6’2 shooting guard
- A WPIAL champion in high school, this skilled shooter has an extremely deep range from anyone on the floor
- Isaiah can create opportunities for himself as well as his teammates
Travarese Rowe Travarese Rowe 6'3" | PF McKeesport | 2023 State PA / McKeesport High School
- AAU Team: Team Wildcat
- 6’5 small forward/power forward
- He has the ability to get out on the break and finish with a thunderous slam dunk
- Travarese plays quality defense in the paint with strong rebounds and blocked shots
Kellen McDonough / Woodland Hills High School
- AAU Team: Mason Elite
- 6’5 power forward
- A big body kid that does all the dirty work to help his team be successful
- Kellen has the toughness and strength to bring that physicality each and every game
Adam Bilinsky / Norwin High School
- AAU Team: Mason Elite
- 6’3 guard/forward
- He is a balanced basketball player who can slash to the rim and knock down jumpers on the perimeter
- Adam does whatever is necessary to provide his team with a spark
Ian Herring / Quaker Valley High School
- AAU Team: Prospects
- 6’3 guard/forward
- A tall, long, athletic wing that plays with confidence in every contest
- Ian plays well on both ends of the floor and always puts forth his best effort
Dante DePante Dante DePante 6'3" | PG Central Catholic | 2023 State PA / Central Catholic High School
- AAU Team: Mason Elite
- 6’1 shooting guard
- A slick, smooth offensive performer who can light it up consistently from the perimeter
- Dante can create opportunities in the half-court set and on the fast break as well
Connor Spratt Connor Spratt 6'3" | PG Seton LaSalle | 2023 State PA / Peters Township High School
- AAU Team: Team Wildcat
- 6’0 point guard
- He has an above-average basketball IQ which helps him recognize in-game situations very well
- Connor has the quickness to get the ball up the floor in transition and facilitate to his teammates
AJ Wagstaff / Peters Township High School
- AAU Team: Team Wildcat
- 5’11 combo guard
- He is a quick guard with the precision passing skills to find the open man
- AJ looks to develop his game on both ends of the floor with his strong work ethic
Josh Gimbel / Pine Richland High School
- AAU Team: Team Wildcat
- 5’10 shooting guard
- A talented perimeter shooter that can score off screens or pull up on the fast break
- Josh has good hands on the defensive end of the floor to cause steals and deflections
These ten top performers worked extremely hard during this event to improve their individual skills while developing teamwork to have a meaningful basketball experience. Some of the names listed will continue to be mentioned as the months move forward during AAU season.
