Over the past couple of years, the High Country Conference has been responsible for a number of state championships as well as putting out great contenders who may fall just short of the ultimate goal. One thing is for sure, if the teams in this conference can survive the gnarly wind that is always gusting in eastern Idaho, than they are more than capable of putting together an impressive basketball game (so long as it is played indoors to counteract the wind). Continue reading for a look at some of the best players from the 4A High Country All-Conference team.
Carson Johnson, Bonneville: Johnson showed his scoring ability all season long for the Bees. The lefty can catch and shoot with the best of them and is especially deadly when he can catch and shoot on the run after coming off of a down screen. Carson also has a knack for finishing around the rim through contact if he doesn’t stop and pop for a pull up jumper once he senses that he has beaten his defender.
Cooper Kesler Cooper Kesler 6'2" | SG Hillcrest | 2022 State ID , Hillcrest: Cooper is a knock down shooter for the Knights and he put on a dazzling shooting display throughout the entire season. Kesler has “in the gym” kind of range and if he feels even thee slightest amount of space between himself and his defender, there is a pretty good chance the ball has already left his hands and the additional three points are being added to the scoreboard. Kesler makes defenses pay for any lapses in focus and he is always ready to shoot.
Braxton Miskin, Shelley: Miskin had a solid season for the Russets and showed how he can impact the game in a variety of ways. At 6’5″, Miskin runs the lanes really well in transition and was able to find the rim for some great dunks during the season. On defense, Miskin is a rim protector who has great a great feel for how and when to block shots. Braxton also showed his ability to space the floor by catching and shooting open jumpers from beyond the paint.
