With as much talent that is in the class, it was a difficult list to compose, but we got it. Here we take a look at a few players that can alter the game in various ways.
Remy Wedgeworth Remy Wedgeworth 6'0" | PG Overland | 2022 State CO – Overland
Remy is a guard that understands what is happening at all times and has a gauge on what the team needs. Wedgeworth is a pass-first floor leader that is comfortable with the ball in his hands, plays both on and off the ball, and makes the right play. He does not have to score to be effective but rather fits in and does what is asked of him. He is a coach’s dream as a hard worker on both ends of the floor, penetrates the defense, and is a willing passer. For Overland, he put up 7.2 points and 3.5 rebounds a game and was the difference maker that brought energy, a change of pace, and a new perspective. He has gotten off to a hot start in grassroots with Chaos, who is showcasing him and letting him free roam. He’s a player to watch.
Josh Lopez Josh Lopez 6'0" | PG Mullen | 2022 State CO – Mullen
Lopez was the primary ball-handler and creator for a Mullen team that surprised a few teams this year. He is a confident dribbler who can create for himself and others, creates space with a tight handle and cross over, and is always looking to score. Lopez put up 9.9 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.2 rebounds a game and looked to have found his own down the final stretch of the season. He runs the floor well, fills the lanes correctly, and also consistently knocked down the 3-ball. Next season he jumps into a situation that he has to do more, and with the added work, I am sure he is a guard that makes the leap.
Tabor Robison Tabor Robison 5'10" | CG Horizon | 2022 State CO – Horizon
Robison is a hardworking guard that alters the game with his energy and presence. He is a tenacious defender that forces the trap, covers plenty of ground defensively, and also is always capable of knocking down the big shot. Robison is not the go-to option for Horizon, but he is the player who provides calmness for the group as he is never sped up. He responds to runs, handles himself against pressure, and stepped up offensively in his junior season. The crafty guard put up 11.6 points and 3.6 rebounds a game but impacted the game on the other end of the court. With a small but scrappy backcourt, he fit in and helped pick up a few wins, and is a difference-maker.
Rayzel Cunningham Rayzel Cunningham 6'1" | CG Coronado | 2022 State CO – Coronado
Cunningham was not only a difference-maker but Coronado’s best player this season. Cunningham made the biggest jump on points per game from any player in the state. His sophomore season, the 6’1 guard put up 3.0 points a game. His junior year, all the way up to 22.6 ppg and was the top player that you did not hear about. Cunningham went into every contest as the player to stop for the Cougars, and still, teams had no idea how to slow him down. He had a high of 32 points and reached 30 points a few times. The game comes easy to him, and he is an aggressive prospect that is looking to score. He was named an All-State honorable mention after his jump and is a player to watch moving forward.
