Here are a handful of wings and posts from the 2021 class still going strong in the spring season:
Garrett Athon Garrett Athon 6'4" | C Jefferson West | 2021 State KS , 6-foot-4 forward, Kansas Hoggs, Jefferson West HS:
Athon is a solid post player with a variety of moves in the lane. He’s a hard worker who averaged 13.4 points for Jeff West last year. He is the workhorse in the paint for the Hoggs, providing muscle and post up presence. He defends the post and rebounds with power.
Mike Carson Mike Carson 6'4" | PF JC Harmon | 2021 State KS , 6-foot-4 forward, Rise and Grind, KC-Harmon HS:
Carson put up some big numbers en route to second team 6A – 21.7 points and 8.7 rebounds. He’s a versatile athlete who also gave out 2.1 assists per game. He’s an explosive athlete who does a lot of things to affect the game. He is working with Rise and Grind, a team of high school graduates hoping to play at the next level.
Joshua Symonette, 6-foot-6 forward, Perry Ellis 34, Life Prep Academy:
Symonette is one of the best athletes at every weekend tournament. He’s a crazy leaper who blocks shots and defends at a high level. He put up impressive stats for Life Prep last year – 13.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Now he’s showing how well-rounded and athletic he can be for Perry Ellis.
Myles Thompson Myles Thompson 6'7" | SF Hutchinson | 2021 State KS , 6-foot-7 forward, Kansas Players, Hutchinson HS:
A third-team 6A star, Thompson is teamed with a group of juniors with Kansas Prep. He’s the mature physical presence on an athletic club that excels on defense. Thompson is a power in the lane, but he can do a lot of things with the ball in the midrange and perimeter too. With such an up-tempo club, Thompson demonstrates his ability to run the floor and play fast.
Will Townsend Will Townsend 6'8" | PF Shawnee Mission East | 2021 State KS , 6-foot-5 forward, KC Spurs Black, Shawnee Mission East HS:
Like Thompson, Townsend earned third-team 6A. Townsend is reliable glue guy who might not stand out on the super-athletic KC Spurs club. But he’s big, powerful and has ability to catch and face the goal. He is a good passer and makes good decsisions.
