Here are some 15U guards to watch at the Grind Regional Memorial Classic (in alphabetical order):
David Cobin, 2024, 5-foot-8 point guard, KC Spurs Black, DeSoto HS:
One of the quickest and most exciting guards in his age group, Cobin can really light it up. He can shoot from long range, and scores at every level, in every way. He creates offense with his attacking defense, jumping passing lanes, swiping dribbles and anticipating where the ball will be.
Mason English, 2024, 6-foot-2 shooting guard, Victory Ministry, Pittsburg HS:
English is a big, well-built guard who can shoot it from very deep. He’s got good quickness and agility for a big guard. He uses his height and physicality to help pass the ball over and through full-court pressure. He can rebound, body up smaller guards, and pass effectively. But his forte is scoring from well beyond the arc.
Josiah Polynice, 2024, 6-foot point guard, KC Spurs Silver, Olathe South HS:
A strong and well-built ball handler, Polynice uses his power to roll through traffic and fight off contact. He gets in the lane to score and draw fouls, but he also has vision and feel for getting the ball to teammates. Defensively, he makes a lot of plays and disrupts passing lanes.
Chase Thompson, 2024, 5-foot-10 shooting guard, KS 94×50 Elite, Topeka West HS:
Thompson can really light it up when given the opportunity. He’s a scrappy ball handler who will push the ball aggressively, drive and kick, and shoot off penetration. He’s also a gritty defender. But when he starts pouring in 3’s, look out.
Amarian Womack, 2024, 5-foot-10 shooting guard, KC Runnin’ Rebels, KC-Washington HS:
Womack loves to push the ball from end to end. He’s an athletic and creative guard who rebounds and pushes the ball at a breakneck pace, using his sweeping crossover and hesitation dribble to get defenders off balance. He can score in the lane with a variety of acrobatic moves.
