The event was billed as South Bay vs East Bay. The South Bay roster had players from San Jose, while East Bay players came from Hayward, and other areas. The game was competitive and the players were excited to be on the court. Here’s our report on the top players at this event.
AB Gilchrist 6’1 CG of Newark Memorial HS 2021
A good looking scoring guard with plenty of speed and handles to load up on points. He used his speed, and vision to hurry the ball up the court making long passes hitting teammates in strides or speed dribbling. He had good control and balance on the drive, a reliable shot from mid-range out to 3pt land.
Kenny Harper Kenny Harper 6'4" | SF Valley Christian | 2023 State CA-N 6’3 CG of Valley Christian HS 2023.
Harpers an intriguing prospect, he’s still developing his skill set, and has a solid body. He has good size, and handles the ball okay away from the basket. He had opportunities to score around the basket, he’ll go up strong inside off two, handle the contact, and will rebound. He has to convert his shots in and around the basket.
Alex Ma 5’9 PG of Castro Valley HS 2021
A slick handled, shifty point guard oozing with confidence. He had good up court passing, and a good pull up jumper in transition. He worked well penetrating the paint with floaters, and off hand moves to keep the big fellas off balance. He can hit the 3.
Shea Mattox Shea Mattox 5'10" | PG Piedmont Hills | 2023 State CA-N 6’0 G of Valley Christian HS 2023
He brings good intensity to the court. The hard charging guard plays as hard as any player on the court. He has a good hard dribble with the ball, he runs the court hard, and he plays hard man to man defense. He has a good shot from mid-range.
Josiah Morris 6’2 G/W of Newark Memorial HS 2022.
Morris has top defender written all over him if he’s locked in. He has the attitude, athleticism, foot speed, and length to give defenders fits. He has some offense to with work, he’ll run the court in transition, a quick first step on the drive. He’s a good rebounding guard.
Chris Naulls Chris Naulls 6'4" | PF Christopher | 2023 State CA-N 6’6 PF of Christopher HS 2023.
Naulls has improved since the last time we saw him. He’s a rising prospect in the 2023 NorCal Class. His post and mid post game was on display. Improved footwork, a few face up moves, and a jump hook makes him a threat in the post. He can hit the elbow jumper, and step out a little further to shoot his jumper. He’s grown a few inches, bulked up a bit. He has good paint presence and will rebound in his space.
Jaiden Paran Jaiden Paran 6'1" | PG Archbishop Mitty | 2023 State CA-N 5’10 PG of Archbishop Mitty HS 2023
Paran has added a few pounds, and showing balance to his game right now. He looked good getting teammates involved early in the contest. His court vision has improved along with his passing, he had several no look passes resulting in points. He split the defense several times up top. He has deep 3pt range.
Jurrien Sparks 6’6 W/F of Castro Valley HS 2021.
A long slender prospect with a frame to add muscle. He showed good activity on the inside, going after rebounds, and blocks. He held his own against stronger players inside, but needs to bulk up. The lefty has a good jump shot in the paint, and showed some ability to get to the rim off the dribble. He’ll shoot the 3 if open. His long strides gets him up the court in a hurry.
