As we take a look a different aspects of the rankings, I’ll focus on the Baltimore prospects going by positions. We now move to the combo guards.

Tyson Commander Tyson Commander 6'4" | SG The John Carroll School | 2022 State #203 Nation MD | John Carroll
Ranking: No. 9
Positional Ranking: No. 3
Commander is fresh off helping lead John Carroll to a monumental upset over No. 1 St. Frances in the BCL title game. The 6-foot-4 southpaw already established himself as one of the top snipers in the state and although he struggled out of the gates this season, he ended on a strong note and became a vital piece to rattling off a nine-game winning streak. After averaging 18 points per game as a sophomore, defenses were more keen to denying Commander or forcing him to put the ball on the floor more as a junior. Commander hit his share of three’s throughout, but really displayed more of an ability to attack the rim off the dribble. That area still needs improvement going forward and as he develops, it’ll make him and even tougher matchup.
Jordan Pennick Jordan Pennick 6'1" | CG Archbishop Spalding | 2022 State MD | Archbishop Spalding
Ranking: No. 40
Positional Ranking: No. 7
Pennick put the Baltimore high school season on notice that he is a legitimate college prospect. I was already aware given his breakout summer with Team Choo where he emerged as a dependable two-way player who produced at a steady rate. For the No. 2 Cavaliers he saw his role increase significantly from his sophomore season. The 5-foot-11 guard always drew the responsibility of guarding the other team’s best perimeter scoring threat. Pennick’s football traits translate well to the hardwood as he brings toughness and is able to endure the physicality when matched up against bigger players. Offensively he has grown into a player that must be accounted for at all times around the perimeter. He was super efficient on three’s from the corner off the catch and has good understanding of how to space himself and make himself available to driving teammates. As mentioned earlier, Pennick is no stranger to contact, so he embraces it on his drives to the rim and finishes strong or draws fouls with regularity.
Tre Green Tre Green 6'2" | CG Glenelg County | 2023 MD | Boys’ Latin
Ranking: No. 63
Positional Ranking: No. 16
I was unable to catch Green in any live action this winter with Boys’ Latin not having a season, but he made steady progress in his summer with Team Choo. He seemed to grow at least two inches from last high school season and put on noticeable muscle/athleticism. Now at 6-foot-3, the lefty combo guard is primed for a huge role for the Lakers next winter. He hits enough three’s to force the defense to respect him from outside, but is better at attacking closeouts, getting into the paint and finishing with soft touch on floaters. Green is somewhat unknown, but I have a strong feeling after this spring and summer he’ll be on the radar of many college programs.
Rynell Bert Rynell Bert 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2022 MD | St. Frances
Ranking: No. 64
Positional Ranking: No. 17
Bert made the move from Dunbar to St. Frances this summer in large part due to the Maryland Public Schools deciding to cancel their season. The 6-foot-1 guard came off the bench for the Panthers sporadically throughout the season where he was a decent defender and an effective off-ball guard that moved well and found scoring opportunities come his way off of other’s penetration.
