Continue ReadingWhile everyone is excited for the start of AAU, it can be easy to forget that many seniors are still looking for that best fit or even first offer from the next level. Here are few names who are still looking for home with there high school playing careers over, each bringing to the table skill sets that could translate well at the next level.
Joe Kirby/6’2/St. Xavier- One of the main reasons St. X claiming a share of the GCL-South title for the first time in over a decade, Kirby proved to be one of the best shooters in Cincinnati. Finished 7th in the GCL-South in scoring at 13.8ppg with a shooting split of 46/43/83 on the season. Kirby does a really good job at setting his defenders up when coming off screens and does need much room to get his shot off. While shooting is Joe’s biggest asset, he also proved to be a more than adequate play maker in pick and roll situations and did not look uncomfortable when tasked with primary ball-handling duties.
Trey Killens Trey Killens 6'1" | PG Mason | 2021 State OH /6’1/Mason (#98 Overall, #29 PG)- This gentleman made one of the biggest leaps in Cincinnati from his junior to senior year. Went from averaging 0.3 points as a senior to leading one of the premier public school leagues in Ohio, the Greater Miami Conference, in scoring at 21.3ppg. One of the quickest guards in the area, Killens excels in the open court where he constantly puts pressure on the defense. Also a fearless finisher at the rim who is not afraid of contact, Trey averaged close to six free throw attempts per game this season. An article from Cincinnati Enquirer in January list Thomas More as showing interest in the senior.
Justin Lovette Justin Lovette 5'11" | SG LaSalle | 2021 State OH /6’0/LaSalle (#86 Overall, #22 SG)- A truly jack of all trades, Justin finished in the top-5 in the always tough GCL-South in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals for the Lancers. A very athletic guard who is a bulldog on the defensive end, Lovette has the type of game that can make others around him better. He also showed an improved ability to shoot the basketball from deep as his three-point percentage jumped to almost 31% on sixty-two attempts as senior compared 15% on only thirteen attempts as a junior.
Camron Mckenzie Camron Mckenzie 6'3" | SG Bethany | 2021 State OH /6’3/Hughes (#38 Overall, #8 SG)- One of the best pure scorers in Ohio, McKenzie ended his career with back to back seasons averaging 23ppg while being named 3rd team all-state this past season. A true three level scorer with one of the better mid-range games around, McKenzie also proved to be a really good rebounder for his position averaging over eight boards per game during his final season. Coming from a school known for producing talented guards, it is hard to understand why more programs are not in on this talented senior. He currently holds offers from Kentucky St, Tusculum and Rio Grande.
Kelvin Turner/6’0/Lakota West- Kelvin quietly had a very outstanding season for the Thunderhawks this past season. After averaging just 3.9 points per game as junior with Princeton the unranked senior finished 2nd to the before mentioned Trey Killens Trey Killens 6'1" | PG Mason | 2021 State OH in the GMC in scoring, averaging 20.6ppg with a shooting split of 47/46/91. While known mostly for his ability to shoot the ball, Kelvin is also very good at playing the passing lanes on the defensive end as well. Turner is a really solid ball player who could turn into a solid performer at the next level.
Zion Reynolds Zion Reynolds 6'4" | SF Western Hills | 2021 State OH /6’5/Western Hills (#127 Overall, #21 SF)- I can see this young man becoming a big point guard/point forward at the next level due to his versatility and play making ability. One of only a handful of players in the talent rich CMAC to average 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assist per game, Zion is a handful to deal with off the bounce and does not mind taking contact at the rim as well. While he does have interest from multiple D-II/III programs, there is a good chance that he will take his talents to the prep level with Reynolds being 17 years old according to Mustang head coach Bryce Stokes.
