There are plenty more than this and will continue to update them, but here’s a look at seven players who may not be household names but should be on the radar of division one coaches.
Davin Cosby | 6’4” | John Marshall/Team Loaded 804
Cosby has been on the radar since his breakout sophomore season at Benedictine where he emerged as one of the top shooters in the class in VA, but it’s been this past year where he’s started to show he has rounded out his game and become much tougher to guard overall. The 6’4” sniper has long arms and a quick release from deep, and he’s very confident as far as his ability to make shots from all over the floor and he can get hot quickly when he hits one and works hard off the basketball to get open. However, he’s also shown that he’s a guy who can play on the ball both in isolation and pick-and-roll situations and get to the rim and create shots for both himself and others as well.
George Beal George Beal 6'4" | SF Kings Fork | 2022 State VA | 6’4” | King’s Fork/Boo Williams
A high motor and highly athletic wing, Beal is a great fit for a MEAC or Big South school as he will come in ready to compete and get after it from day one. He’s long and plays like he was shot out of a cannon as he thrives in transition where he can get downhill and finish at or above the rim, and he’s a two way impact guy that can create havoc on the defensive end with his athleticism and high motor. He’s underrated in his skill set at he can create shots in isolation situations and score from multiple levels when he gets it going, but it’s his high energy style of play that makes him an impact in ways other than scoring too.
Carmelo Pacheco Carmelo Pacheco 6'4" | SG Spotswood | 2022 State VA | 6’4” WG | Spotswood/VA Blaze
Pacheco has quietly been one of the top players in the Harrisonburg area, and while it isn’t the biggest market in the state it has produced plenty of basketball talent and he plays at a school that has produced division one and two players in the past. The 6’4” wing is a long and smooth shot maker that is consistent from deep and can get hot quickly, and he has a great feel for the game both on and off the basketball. He can flat out light it up when he gets it going and has the ability to take over games, he has a good competitive drive to his game and he’s a guy division one coaches should dig deep to find and keep an eye on because he can flat out hoop.
Jacob Rice Jacob Rice 6'7" | SF Miller School | 2022 State VA | 6’7” F | Miller School/ VA Premier
Rice is coming off of a breakout junior season at Miller School where he got off to a blazing fast start and showed his versatility as an inside-out threat, and so far in the AAU season he’s been doing the same thing with VA Premier . A high motor forward with touch out to the three-point line and the ability to attack and get to the rim, Rice is highly productive as he can guard multiple positions and rebounds well on both ends of the floor. He’s a walking mismatch and has the ability to exploit those mismatches, and he doesn’t always need a lot of touches to make an impact on the game.
Arbriel Winfield Arbriel Winfield 6'7" | PF LC Bird | 2022 VA | 6’7” PF | LC Bird/Team Loaded 804
Winfield is one of the better unknown prospects in the Richmond area, and one of the reasons I say that is because his behind the scenes development has been outstanding over the past few years. The 6’7” forward went from a pure post guy to an inside-out threat who can play out to the top of the key, can make shots or attack and is an excellent high-low passer at that point. He’s athletic and fluid, plays well in spurts and he’s still growing both physically and within his game every time you see him play.
Wendell Tomlin Wendell Tomlin 6'6" | PF Church Hill Academy | 2022 State VA | 6’6” F | Church Hill Academy/VA Havoc
Tomlin is another unknown Richmond area prospect that coaches should get to know this summer, as he has similar tools as Winfield with his size and ball skills at his size. He’s a good athlete who can get up and down the floor well, he can guard multiple positions and he can play above the rim as well. He’s a knock down shooter from deep, he can attack closeouts and finish at the rim and he’s a big time rebounder on both ends as well.
Ethan Millirons Ethan Millirons 6'0" | PG Auburn | 2022 State VA | 6’1” PG | Auburn/ VA Premier
Millirons is the type of guard who isn’t going to wow you with his athleticism or quickness, but he’s going to produce against pretty much anyone that is put in front of him with his skill set, fundamentals and understanding of the game. His game is perfectly set for a service academy of low major school as he can run the show, makes everyone better and he’s able to make shots from deep both off the catch and off the bounce. He’s a high academic and very hard working player that gets better every time you see him, and he’s a winner who will set the right culture and is a natural leader others follow.
