There were a ton of talented floor generals in the building at Haltom High School. With that in mind, here are five of the best point guards from the 15U division:
Tyler Slomka | 2024 | 6’0’’ Point Guard | Victory Academy 2024 Gold | Hebron HS – Slomka’s straight-line speed is next level. There wasn’t anybody who could stay in front of this kid once he got downhill. The Hebron guard was dangerous in transition, going coast-to-coast on numerous occasions. His perimeter defense was solid as well. He plays extremely hard on both ends of the floor and never turns it off.
Donny Thomas | 2024 | 6’1’’ Point Guard | Nike ProSkills San Antonio 2024 Black | Bishop HS – Thomas was on my radar coming into the weekend. The Bishop guard put up some impressive numbers at the varsity level as a freshman. He was solid during the tournament, contributing in a variety of ways on offense and converting some impressive takes to the basket through contact. He is certainly a 2024 prospect to keep an eye on moving forward.
Sam McKinney Sam McKinney 6'6" | SF Buda Johnson | 2024 State TX | 6’4’’ Point Guard/Shooting Guard | CTX Knights 2024 | Johnson HS – McKinney is likely more of a combo guard, but I liked him best when he was running the show at the one spot, and thus included him here with the other floor generals. He operated as his team’s primary ball handler and displayed excellent decision-making skills. His size allows him to see over the top and read defenses. The 2024 prospect is a terrific three-point shooter too. He’ll be able to slide into either guard spot with ease.
Jean Michael Anderson | 2024 | 5’10’’ Point Guard | Victory Academy 2024 White | McKinney HS – Anderson was easily one of the best ball handlers in attendance at The Tune Up. His flashy dribble moves lull defenders to sleep which opens him up to shoot off the bounce, attack the basket off the dribble, or find an open teammate. Furthermore, the 5-foot-10-inch lead guard has a nice package of runners and floaters to go to once he gets into the paint.
Milo Gonzales | 2024 | Point Guard | NGUS 2024 Tornados – Gonzales is a floor general who is wired to score. He is a terrific three-point shooter who can knock down triples from the catch and off the dribble, and he did both throughout the tournament this weekend. The 2024 guard also showed that he can hit from mid-range off the bounce. He played fast but never looked out of control. Additionally, he was a vocal leader who coached up his teammates in between plays.
