The Meridian Warriors were able to claim their first state title in quite a long time and did so in commanding fashion. The Warriors had a mix of size, shooters, and the determination to win that ultimately pushed them to victory and achieving an elusive state title. Across the bracket, high quality games were played with lots of tough competition and great performances. Continue reading for a look at the top performers from the 5A state tournament.
McKay Anderson McKay Anderson 6'0" | PG Meridian | 2021 State ID , Meridian: Voted MVP of the 5A tournament, McKay did a little bit of everything for Meridian throughout the weekend. Anderson was a constant source of an offensive spark for the Warriors including a 23 point performance in the state title game. Anderson was a true point guard who ran the uptempo Meridian offense and always put his teammates in positions to score. McKay shot the ball well from the field and did a great job of getting to the rim and also knocking down outside jumpers. Anderson will make a great point guard at the next level.
Kolton Mitchell Kolton Mitchell 6'1" | PG Lake City | 2023 State ID , Lake City: Mitchell made a name for himself and Lake City at the state tournament this season. Mitchell showed that Lake City has a really solid young core that will contend for titles in the following years as well. Kolton is a tough matchup for defenders and can use his shooting ability to dazzle spectators and give headaches to defenders. He is a true scorer who is crafty everywhere on the court and can score in quite a variety of ways. Look for Mitchell to be one of the best players in the state in upcoming years.
Taden King Taden King 6'4" | PG Madison | 2021 State ID , Madison: King had a great season for Madison and found way to bring them to the state tournament. King used his lights-out shooting abilities throughout the weekend and also mixed in a healthy dose of mid-range jumpers and finishes on the left side of the rim. King has great size and can shoot over smaller defenders and can also drive past bigger and slower defenders. Taden will be a great 2-guard at the next level.
