The 1A DII championship was taken home by the Garden Valley Wolverines after an impressive weekend run and a great display of basketball at the state tournament overall. Additionally, the entire 1A DII bracket featured a lot of great games and a lot of quality performances across the weekend. At the end of the day, Garden Valley was able to work their way to the top and secured their spot in state history. Covy Kelly Covy Kelly 6'0" | PG Garden Valley | 2021 State ID , Garden Valley: Voted the state tournament MVP for the 1A DII classification, Kelly had a tournament to remember. He averaged 30 points per game over the span of the weekend including a 45-point performance in the championship game. His shooting and attacking abilities were on full display throughout the entire tournament and he showed that he could score against all kinds of competition. When Garden Valley needed scoring and a boost the most, Covy stepped up and provided a spark for his teammates as he carried them to the hardware.
Rhys Dill Rhys Dill 6'6" | C Dietrich | 2021 State ID , Dietrich: Rhys had a great weekend for the Blue Devils while helping lead his squad to a second place finish. Dill had a great game to push Dietrich into the championship game behind a 25-point, 16-rebound, and 4-block performance. Dill did a little bit of everything on the court during the state tournament and he showed that he could score, defend, and block any shots that came his way. Rhys has a great feeling for the game and showed that he was able to produce when his team needed him in large quantities.
Hunter Smith, Carey: Hunter helped Carey finish the tournament in third place behind a dominant performance in the final game of the season. Smith posted 31 points in the third-place game and he showed that he could score in a variety of ways while leading his team to the bronze medal. Hunter is a great all-around player who showed that he has what it takes to play at the next level.
