The sturdy 5-foot-9, 170-pound point guard is ready to take the step up and has been feverishly working hard on his game this off-season. Part of that preparation has come with playing some club ball, of which he started running with Elite 24 a couple of weeks ago.
Lee’s first tournament with the Elite 24 Volt team was at the H-Town Classic in Houston. “It was good and I loved it,” Lee said. “I got to compete against some guys from Chicago and Houston and it was great competition, stuff you don’t really get to see here. I felt pretty good considering I hadn’t played in awhile. I was shooting and being a point guard, helping my teammates out and leading.”
This past weekend was Lee’s second tournament a little closer to home in Centralia and he’s continued to shake off the rust. “I feel like I did well considering my right arm is hurt,” Lee said. “I feel like I did well leading and distributing the ball and getting assists. As a team I think we still got work to do but that just comes with practice.”
We watched some of Lee’s action this past weekend and in addition to getting his teammates involved and hitting some shots of his own, his defensive work stood out. In a battle against OBC, Lee took on the task of guarding Jesuit star shooter James Lang James Lang 6'0" | CG Jesuit | 2021 State OR and really shadowed him both on and off the basketball. He’s hopeful that all the work he’s put in this off-season will continue to pay off.
“For me, one of the main things is being a leading guy, having my voice and leading my teammates – that’s been my main thing,” Lee said. “I’m getting shots up every day and working on my ball-handling.”
Lee is hoping that his continued development will eventually result in an opportunity to play college basketball. He currently boasts a 3.2 GPA and his progress this season will hopefully start to turn some heads. “I just want to be the best player that I can be and wherever that takes me,” Lee said. “I’ll just see whatever fits me best and see what happens from there.”
As he finishes out with club tournaments, the season is less than a month away and Lee is ready to suit back up with Lake Oswego. “I’m excited,” Lee said. “We haven’t played in awhile and we’ve kind of got a chip on our shoulders because last season we didn’t really get a chance to show what we’re about. So I’m excited for us to show up and show what we’ve got.”
Lee currently ranks as the #63 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
