MVP: PG Ryan Conwell Ryan Conwell 6'2" | SG Pike | 2022 State #155 Nation IN (EG10; 2022)
Conwell was dominant all weekend long for EG10. The lefty point guard was able to get into the lane at will and use his shifty quickness to get by his defender. His jumper continues to develop and he is capable of knocking down his shot with a mid-range pull-up or a deep three extending to NBA range. Conwell plays with good pace and never seems to get sped up. What has really developed over the last few months is his passing ability. He always plays with his head up, surveying the floor. He made multiple lookahead passes that beat the defense down the floor off of a make or a miss. On ball screen action, he is tremendous and puts tons of pressure on the defense, either getting a mismatch with a slower big, or using his quickness and length to get in the lane and make plays for his teammates.
Underrated Performer: PF Charlie Williams Charlie Williams 6'10" | PF Carmel | 2022 State #220 Nation IN (Team Teague; 2022)
Williams isn’t the best player on Team Teague and won’t get the attention of some of his teammates, but he is extremely important to their success and what they do on the floor. He is a long and slim forward who brings a lot to the table. His versatility allows him to play in the post, but also can stretch the floor and keep the defense honest from the perimeter. Williams does a lot of work early in a possession to get good post position, and when he does is very difficult to stop once he gets the ball. He has good touch around the rim and is also an underrated passer as well. Defensively, his length allows him to disrupt multiple shots at the rim and if he can continue to add strength, he will be a dominant post player on both ends of the floor.
Top Playmaker: PG Leland Walker Leland Walker 5'11" | PG North Central | 2022 VA (Team Teague; 2022)
This was a difficult one to decide on, but Walker’s explosiveness takes him to the next level on the offensive end. When he wants, there is nobody that can stop him from getting to his spots offensively. His quick first step and ability to use his body is exceptional. Once he’s in the middle of the defense, he uses his shot creation ability to his advantage and will pull in the defense allowing for multiple drop-off passes to his teammates. His shot wasn’t always on this weekend, but it was still enough of a threat to keep the defense from sagging off. At times he would settle for the outside shot, but when he made up his mind to get to the rim, he was always able to finish, even through contact. His weekend was highlighted by a 31-point outing in Team Teague’s final game.
Stock Riser: PF Shilo Jackson (EG10; 2022)
One of the more impressive bigs this weekend was EG10’s Shilo Jackson. He is a long and lanky 6-foot-9 big who knows how to use his length on both ends. He has very good footwork and a soft touch around the rim. He can get pushed around a bit on the block with his lack of frame, but his skill makes up for that. What was most impressive was his ability to run the floor. He was the recipient of many Conwell passes off of makes or misses. Around the rim, he has good anticipation and his length makes him a plus rebounder. He did show some ability to put the ball on the floor, but wasn’t overly effective when doing so. If he can continue to work on his frame, he will be a very intriguing prospect heading into next year.
Glue-Guy: SF Peter Suder Peter Suder 6'5" | SG Carmel | 2022 State #227 Nation IN (Team Teague; 2022)
Suder is a guy who does just about everything for your team and may not have much of it show up in the box score. He can pass, shoot, dribble, defend and make plays for his teammates. He doesn’t need to be on the ball at all times, but can easily be used as a primary ball handler if needed. Suder is one of the toughest competitors and will never take a play off. He always attacks the basket strong and spaces the floor with his ability to knock down shots on the perimeter. Defensively, he will always take on the challenge of guarding the opposing team’s best player.
Top Duo: PG Ryan Conwell Ryan Conwell 6'2" | SG Pike | 2022 State #155 Nation IN (EG10; 2022) / SG Greg Jenkins (EG10; 2021)
We’ve already touched on the all-around ability of Conwell, but the play of Jenkins was on full display this weekend. He provided a great secondary scoring punch next to Conwell and showed the ability to knock down outside shots as well as get to the rim. He was tremendous using his slashing ability and did a decent job at finishing at the rim. He could be a bit out of control at times and was sometimes locked in at scoring at the rim instead of driving to pass. Make no mistake though, Jenkins is a big time shot maker and iced the game for EG10 on Saturday against D1 Minnesota.
