It is now time for Prep Hoops Colorado to unveil our All-State Teams. Here are your Class of 2023 All-State Teams!
Silas McCurnin Silas McCurnin 6'2" | PG Poudre | 2023 State CO – Poudre
McCurnin is a bucket in every sense of the word. He is a natural scorer and one of the top knockdown shooters in the class that will have a huge CHSAA career. He already has gotten off to a great start as he put up 12.4 points a game as a freshman and elevated his game to another level in his sophomore season, putting up an impressive 22.4 points a game. McCurnin can still score the ball despite his team not finding much success and opposing teams knowing that slowing him down is the difference in the game. McCurnin had a high of 34 points and followed that up with 28 and 29. He shot 42% from deep and was efficient despite being down in games. He’s a player to get familiar with and easily makes the 2023 All-Class team.
Khafre Garrett-Mills Khafre Garrett-Mills 6'4" | SG Aurora Central | 2023 MD – Aurora Central
Khafre is a guard that did everything for Aurora Central, and almost single-handedly won the Trojans games. The 6’3 combo-guard has solid size in his sophomore year and is a capable scorer willing to take over in games. Khafre scored in double figures in every game this year and led his team to an 11-4 record, including a win in the playoffs over Palisade and another solid performance in a loss to the No.1 overall seed in Windsor. Khafre is a high IQ player that can score from all three levels, can creatively score for himself, and challenges himself defensively. He turned a few heads along the way and has that Aurora Central team as one to look forward to watching. A solid year for the standout sophomore.
Assane Diop Assane Diop 6'10" | PF Belleview Christian | 2023 State #107 Nation CO – Belleview Christian
Diop put up video game-type numbers this year that simply makes no sense. Diop averaged 16.1 points and 19.1 rebounds while averaging 7.1 assists a game with a few quadruple-doubles along the way, which is absurd to think about. The scary thing about it is, when watching some of the games, you can see that at times he gets a bit disinterested. Dominating in games like that can be overwhelming, especially when you stick out like a sore thumb. Diop blocks every shot that comes his way, had a few games where he had over 20 rebounds, and also scores with ease. In the state championship push, games were not close. Belleview Christian annihilated everyone in their way as they were named the 1A state champions. Diop had 22 points, 23 rebounds, 9 assists, and 5 blocks in the state championship, and that is just not something you see every day. We were able to see a special player this season.
Kadyn Betts Kadyn Betts 6'7" | PF Huntington Prep | 2023 #90 Nation CO – Pueblo Central
Betts is a player that we were high on heading into the year as he has been a Top-5 player, but what he could accomplish in his sophomore year solidified those ideas and even pushed him up in our newest rankings update that is dropping soon. Betts did whatever it is he wanted, and the 6’7 sophomore big man knows his way around the court. Betts is a glass cleaning big that has a good feel around the rim, soft touch, and finishes in traffic. He grabbed boards, went right up with the ball, passed out of double teams, and had an excellent motor. He impacts the game on both ends of the floor and is a player that the Wildcats could throw it into and let him go get a basket. Betts averaged 18.1 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks a game. He led his team to a 14-3 record and a playoff push while being the team’s best player in only his second year. The future looks bright for him.
Baye Fall Baye Fall 6'11" | C Luthern Christian | 2023 State #13 Nation CO —Lutheran
Fall was named the Maxpreps Player of the Year in only his sophomore season after averaging 21.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks a game. Fall is the No.3 player in the country that has continued to pick up accolades as he led his team to a 16-1 record (with the only loss being to an outstanding 5A team). Fall’s physicality and ability to affect the game defensively is what separates him from the pack. He is a lockdown defender that does not take plays off, has an excellent motor, and takes matchups personally. In the state championship game, Fall was used to guard one of the state’s top point guards, and his ability to deter him won Lutheran the 3A state championship. Fall does not shy away from contact, finishes it above the rim, and also has a solid mid-range turnaround game. Fall does what he wants on the court and continues to get better, which makes him one of the most unique players we have in the state. Solid season for him and a career worth watching as he garners national attention. Easily in the discussion as the POY.
