It’s been a difficult season, one that included the cancelation of the high school season, tons of players coming and going, and an overall lack of playing opportunities. Despite that and thanks to yeomen efforts from coaches, I’ve been fortunate to see a ton of players and learn some new names. The class of 2024 is one of the deepest in the state. Perhaps no position highlights that depth as much as the point guard position. In this article, we take a look at the top PGs from the Class of 2024.
DJ Thomas DJ Thomas 6'2" | PG Liberty | 2024 #19 Nation NV 6’1 Liberty #1 – The list is lead by one of the top players in the class. Hard to pinpoint Thomas’s best skill. He’s a high IQ player, but the lefty also shoots it with range and is a P&R expert. He rarely plays against players his own age, yet dominates the competition. He put together another standout performance last weekend in Colorado at the PH Season Kick-Off
John Mobley Jr John Mobley Jr 6'0" | PG Wasatch Academy | 2024 State #55 Nation UT 5’11 Bishop Gorman #6 – Mobley has had a ton of comparisons to Atlanta Hawks start Trae Young recently. When you watch him play, you can see why. Elite wiggle, combined with the ability to get his shot off from a variety of body angles, and still be accurate. He has a quick release and shoots it with range.
Alijah Adem Alijah Adem 6'2" | PG Spring Valley | 2024 State #174 Nation NV 6’1 Spring Valley #8 (featured image) – The fact that Adem is ranked 8th highlights the depth of the class. He gravitates between dominating games with his scoring and his playmaking. Adem is the perfect engine for an uptempo offense, as he is at his best when playing at high speeds. He possesses big-time handle, vision, and off-the-bounce shooting ability.
Tru Coleman 5’11 Democracy Prep #20 – Coleman is a good two-way player that is a dog on the defensive end. He loves to challenge ballhandlers forcing them to remain cautious with their dribble when attacking him. He’s a good paint touch getter with the ability to finish in the lane.
Maximus Romero Maximus Romero 5'11" | PG Arbor View | 2024 State NV 5’9 Spring Valley #21 – Romero is a no-nonsense type of PG, that never seems to get too high or too low. He could be categorized as more of a shooting guard, but his IQ and willingness to make plays for teammates qualify him as a PG. He is good in catch and shoot situations, and also can get out and score in transition.
Kaeden Castillero Kaeden Castillero 6'0" | SG Liberty | 2024 State NV 6’0 Liberty #26 – Castillero has an absolute strap and is one of the top floor spacing PGs in the class. He plays with Thomas a lot so he spends a lot of time off the ball, however, it’s clear that he has the ability to get by defenders, draw and kick. Without a doubt, his best skill is his ability to change the scoreboard with his shooting.
