Teams and their fans came out in droves all the way from North Florida, Wisconsin, Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, San Antonio, Houston, and many more, ready to battle it out. This event was an action-packed thriller filled with buzzer-beaters, slam dunks, ankle breakers, you name it. Here we’ll take a look at a few of the most dominant big men from the Prep Hoops Tune Up.
Daelyn Evans – Power Forward – Pro Basketball Elite 2023
This true Freshman played up with the big boys and did more than hold his own. The stretch forward proved to be highly versatile offensively, he was effective in the paint, the mid-range, and from beyond the arc where he displayed his range. Although he has a wide solid built body, Evans was able to maneuver through a defense like a guard. Down low, Daelyn Evans was an absolute bully in the paint, completely physically imposing, no one wanted to compete with him down in the post.
Isaiah Dixon – Center – Team F.O.E. 2023 Black
6-foot-7-inch, Isaiah Dixon displayed all the physical tools it takes to be a formidable low post presence, incredibly long arms, fluid athleticism, great strength, and solid leaping ability. Dixon threw down a powerful drop step dunk down low that was so hard the goal continued to shake for over two minutes. As a defender, Isaiah Dixon altered things with his incredible standing reach, forcing guys to change their shots to high arcing jumpers and floaters.
Matthew Zakaria – Power Forward – BBSS Blue 2023
Matthew Zakaria proved to be a very agile postman with phenomenal versatility and impressive speed and acceleration for his position. Zakaria’s skillset is pretty well rounded, he has a good handle on the ball, better than most post players, a solid jump shot with a nice form, and good post moves. Matthew showed that he can turn or spin-off a defender and go up with the shot when posting up, he also distributed the ball well, putting a good zip on his passes to make sure it always met its target.
Tristan Martin – Power Forward – BYG Elite 2023
Tristan Martin has these strong broad shoulders that made him a man amongst boys out there. Strong enough to control the board and strike fear in his opponent’s heart. Martin displayed quality athleticism down low and in the open court, he’ll throw down some mean dunks in space. If you let him get out on the fast break he was going to slam down a powerful dunk every time, even when someone tried stepping in Tristan’s way to contest, he just kept rising up and his defender became a poster.
Issac Zakaria – Center – BBSS Blue 2023
Issac Zakaria displayed the length to effect change in the post on both ends of the floor. High motor rim protector who’s aggressive, willing to battle, scrap, and fight for everything down low, but he was never out of control. Defensively, Zakaria sacrificed his body for the ball on countless occasions by diving on the floor for loose balls and taking charges right under the basket. On the offensive end, Issac stayed poised and patient when receiving the ball and looking to score, he got his man up in the air and off their feet on a consistent basis with ball fakes and head fakes. Zakaria also showed an impressive ability to spread the court, pop-out, and knockdown spot-up three-pointers particularly around the wings and corners. High potential and good upside in this young prospect here.
