Buzzer beaters, highlight dunks, and blistering shooting performances kept us hoops fans entertained all day long. There were plenty of top performances to consider, but I settled on five 16U prospects that impressed the most on the second day of the #PHLiveSZNKickoff.
Ciaran Pedulla Team Buddy Buckets 2023
Pedulla, a 2024 guard playing up for Buddy Buckets 16U, was one of the best shooters on the day. He confidently pulled up from several feet beyond the three-point line all day long, forcing defenses to guard him once he crosses half court. His transition passing was surgical. He knew what to do with the ball no matter the situation, and competed when the games became physical.
Molley Kamara Minnesota Chill Elite 2023
The 6’6″ forward was a menace on the offensive glass. Kamara is an athletic leaper who high-points the ball with regularity. He gets off the floor quickly, making him a second-chance machine. His energy on the glass helped his team compete with a very talented Buddy Buckets 2023 team in their first game of the day, ultimately losing by a single possession.
Bryce Tillery Illinois HoopStars 2023
The point guard was cool, calm, and collected all day long at the Speedway Village. He controls the pace of the game, and is excellent at drawing help defenders. He loved to put his man in jail after the initial penetration, baiting the help defense to collapse. When the defense bit, he was always ready to deliver the necessary pass to punish the help. He aggressively attacked closeouts, attacked the rim with aggression, and even hit a game-winning three.
Keon Alexander Illinois HoopStars 2023
One of the best bigs on the day thanks to his high-energy rebounding and his shot-blocking. Alexander brought energy to both ends for the Illinois HoopStars. He finishes at a high level, utilizing baby hooks, up-and-unders, and sometimes electing to bully his way to a bucket.
Camden Bennett Camden Bennett 6'3" | SG St. Joe Lafayette | 2023 State MO 816 Varsity 2023 Burch
It has got to be a chore guarding Bennett for an entire game. He never lets the defense rest, constantly probing and slashing. He doesn’t take possessions off on either end. He can rebound, block shots, handle the ball, and finish at the rim. When double-teams came his way, he calmly assessed the court and beat them with the pass. When defenses walled off the paint, he would take the midrange pull up confidently. When defenses played the drive, he comfortably took the three-point option. He had an answer for everything today.
