A handful of area teams headed to Miami for the Pangos Fantastic 40 event where local products either made some noise or raised their stock. Below are evals of some of the SoCal players who turned in standout performances during our live stream viewing.
Erick Chaney, 2022, Cali Rebels – Chaney is one of those glue guys who can make anything happen on the court. If you need a defensive stop, Chaney will step up to the challenge. He can get to the rim and score through contact in both the transition and half-court settings, but also knows how to manage pace and can stretch the floor with consistent perimeter touch.
Jaden Henley, 2023, Team Inland – We came away very impressed by this 6-foot-5 sophomore, whose slashing and finishing abilities stood out the most throughout our viewing. Henley really makes things happen in transition, but also has the burst and blow-by speed to get by his defender in the half-court setting and to the rim where extends for paint finishes.
Nigerrell Tubbs, 2021, Team Inland – Tubbs has a hardhat, no-nonsense style approach to the game. He competed inside on both ends for rebounds, used his strong 6-foot-6 frame to block out on the defensive boards and seal-off a defender to establish post position. Tubbs has good hands a solid footwork in the painted area and good touch in deep around the basket.
Nate Perez, 2022, Cali Rebels – We’ve loved Perez’s intangibles and basketball IQ since his freshman season at Saugus. The 6-foot-3 guard rarely makes a mistake on the floor and takes care of the basketball at a high level resulting a low turnover rate. Perez has a well-balanced scoring package. He can knock down the open catch-and-shoot three point shot, but can also put the ball on the deck and create a higher-percentage look for himself or a teammate with his passing IQ.
