Sitting front row Wednesday night at the Mid-South Event Center, it’s not hard to see why Bradford has confidence in his team.
Coach Bradford has a strong six-man rotation that can compete when each player is locked in.
Here are my thoughts from the Life Changers 17U team.
Bradford has the luxury of playing three wings on the floor
Michael Lee Michael Lee 6'6" | SG Munford | 2022 State TN , Drew Kyzar Drew Kyzar 6'6" | SF MHEA | 2022 State TN and Luke Shoemaker Luke Shoemaker 6'6" | SF MHEA | 2022 State TN are 6-foot-6 wings, and each player can score the basketball from the perimeter. Lee is the perfect wing because of his ability to shoot the 3. Another great attribute Lee carries is his willingness to go for offensive rebounds. Against the Memphis Magic, the Munford High product had a handful of putbacks. Kyzar and Shoemaker have the DNA of being able to play both forward positions. Both players move well without the basketball, make solid passes and are patient in half-court sets.
Bradford doesn’t have to teach basis things to these three players, because all three know how to play and think at the same time.
There’s only one post player on this team in 6-5 Jerry Taylor. He plays effectively with his back to the basket and moves well in transition in his stout frame. Taylor isn’t afraid to guard the other team’s post player. He looks for the challenge.
Madison Taylor can have success with the Life Changers
The 6-0 guard fits well with this team. Double teaming Lee, Kyzar or Shoemaker will leave Taylor open, and the kid can make shots from 3. Taylor could end up being this team’s best 3-point shooter. He shoots with confidence, truly believing each shot he takes is a good one.
Noah Johnson can be the team’s floor general
The 5-10 point guard only needs to run the offense and take care of the basketball. He did both things in a win over the Memphis Magic. Since there are plenty of scoring components on the floor with him, Johnson just needs to make the right reads. Now, if a shot is there, Johnson should take it and he’s capable of making shots from the perimeter. Johnson showed that at times during the 2020 season in a reserve role at Bartlett High School. He has the makeup of being a solid floor general for this team.
