Eddie Beeninga Eddie Beeninga 6'1" | PG Wayzata | 2021 State MN of Wayzata (6’1 Sr). Eddie was not quiet today. In fact his defense was outstanding and his ability to put the ball where it needed to be with the first pass every time down was excellent. Eddie had six assists, scored nine points, and most importantly his defense and offensive delivery were excellent. Future Minnesota State-Moorhead point guard.
Drew Berkland Drew Berkland 5'11" | PG Wayzata | 2022 State MN of Wayzata (5’11 Jr). Drew Berkland Drew Berkland 5'11" | PG Wayzata | 2022 State MN is so often a game changer. Tonight he had 11 points in a blink including three quick threes. Berkland has a toughness to him that a coach loves because he doesn’t care who is in front of him. Drew’s confidence and competitive fire to score over the top of this guy, step in and stop the next guy, and then board in traffic no matter what is in his way sets him apart. Drew had 17 points on 7 of 9 shooting with six boards.
Carter Bjerke Carter Bjerke 6'9" | C Wayzata | 2022 State MN of Wayzata (6’8 Jr). When it comes to Carter as a shooter, whenever he gets his feet set with a titch of space I feel fully confident the ball is going in. The last guy I had this much confidence in shooting wise at the arc was Seth Coatta. Bjerke is almost automatic if he has space. Bjerke had 13 plus his low post defense and defensive rebounding (10 boards) have really seemed to improve this season. A division one player for sure, where he lands will be interesting.
Jon Haakenson Jon Haakenson 6'2" | SG Maple Grove | 2022 State MN of Maple Grove (6’1 Jr). Jon opened the game with a three and then closed the contest with scores to get to 11 points. On a rough offensive Crimson day, Jon was one who was okay. And defensively he always makes an impact. His position defense forced two CDH offensive fouls and I collected five memories of Haakenson forcing Raider turnovers (two of them were the charge takes).
Camden Heide Camden Heide 6'7" | SF Wasatch Academy | 2022 State #129 Nation UT of Wayzata (6’6 Jr). Heide is a prospect high majors are tracking because he has a combination of physical gifts and skills that few players have. Tonight we saw him sit in a stance and often cut off a full scholarship player of similar size. We saw Heide board seven teams often getting off the ground quicker than bigs around his size and then pushing the ball the other way. Camden used his length to block three shots and collect four steals, and Heide scored six times (15 times) including two threes over positioned length and a dunk that was replayed several times. Solid performance by Heide pushing his team to the state final.
Tre Holloman Tre Holloman 6'2" | PG Cretin-Derham Hall | 2022 State #57 Nation MN of Cretin-Derham Hall (6’3 Jr). Tre was the ex-factor in the 54-42 win over Maple Grove. His ability to post up other guards as well as attack a tiring defense with a quick first step to the rim was the one thing nobody on the court could defend. Tre’s ball pressure as well as his defense one pass away is also a constant danger. Scored 18 points on 8 of 15 shooting with four assists. Solid game and his teammates were excellent when Tre had to sit with foul trouble.
Daniel Montalbano of Cretin-Derham Hall (6’4 Sr). Daniel was the picture of basketball steadiness. Daniel was one of many seniors that played outstanding team defense limiting Maple Grove to 31 percent shooting and 13 turnovers. I liked his box-out hit into a board collection (8 boards), his help defense was nearly perfect, and Daniel scored four times at the cup.
Jack Plum of Cretin-Derham Hall (6’4 Sr). When you look at every thing a person can do in a game I feel like Jack did more than anybody in the Crimson/Raiders contest. His position defense was excellent and considering that’s half the game, he’s a step ahead of everybody. Jack scored five baskets and every one of them seemed to be an impact score. He grabbed six boards, dished out a number of assists, got his hands up to contest/block shots, and forced a few turnovers as well. It was an excellent all around performance.
