(1) Ethan Slaathaug Ethan Slaathaug 6'3" | SG Hayfield | 2021 State MN of Hayfield (6’3 Sr). Ethan is playing at a different level than everybody else on the floor in the Class A playoffs right now. His ability to handle at 6-foot-3 just weaving through the defense to create scoring chances for himself and others has caught the eyes of many. Ethan scored 34 points while creating several shots from others. This is a talented creator that NAIA and MIAC schools are recruiting heavily, and likely others as well considering they way that Ethan is playing. Bethany, Northwestern (IA), and Gustavus are three schools contacting often.
(2) Matt Thompson Matt Thompson 6'7" | C Hancock | 2022 State MN of Hancock (6’7 Jr). Thompson’s size was too much for SESM to deal with. He dominated the paint allowing his team to dominate possessions. The Owls received 20 points from Matt (7 of 11 shooting, 6 of 9 foul shooting) and more importantly 19 rebounds most of which resulted in one shot and done possessions for the opponent. A constantly improving player that has a nice touch facing the cup.
(3) Isaac Matti Isaac Matti 6'1" | SG Hayfield | 2023 State MN of Hayfied (6’2 Soph). What is the term? Bull guard? Power Guard? Fullback guard? Whatever you go with, that is Isaac Matti Isaac Matti 6'1" | SG Hayfield | 2023 State MN of Hayfield. Matti was too strong for his player getting deep in the paint consistently when he attacked, and when Ethan created for Matti, Isaac knocked out four threes. Scored 22 points making half of his 16 shots plus Isaac grabbed five boards.
(4) Kaleb Wait of Sleepy Eye-St Mary’s (5’10 Soph). Kaleb may have had a coming out party in defeat. There is a lot of veteran talent around him but Kaleb was the guy getting loose for opportunity in the semis. Wait knocked out four threes on his way to a team high 19 points but he also turned opponents over four times with steals pushing the action the other way. A certain name to watch the next two years.
(5) Preston Rohloff of Hancock (6’2 Sr). Preston is the Hancock playmaker that was once again in complete control of the game. Preston had 14 points including a couple threes but more importantly was his six assists and efforts getting deflections, chasing down long boards, and getting his body in front of attempts to block a couple shots. Thompson controls the game in the paint but Preston is often the heart of how the team plays as a unit.
