Connor Greavis Connor Greavis 5'11" | PG Livonia | 2023 State LA (5’11″ / Showtime Elite 16U / 2023)
Greavis was one of the more consistent guards with his performance during the PH Tune Up. He showed the ability to make open shots from behind the arc as well as inside (the arc) when left open. His best attribute during the weekend was his defense. He was instrumental in causing turnovers with the numerous deflections he had in Showtime’s 3/4 court trap. Greavis is a very disruptive guard and plays very well in open court situations.
Rayshun McCullar Rayshun McCullar 6'1" | PG Huntington | 2022 State LA (6’1″ / O.W.E. Travel / 2022)
McCullar came out of the preseason on fire yet had what some would term as an okay season for the Huntington Raiders. With O.W.E. on the weekend, he reminded some of why he is one of the top rated point guards in the state. McCullar felt his was through early games with his summer teammates and made some mistakes. By the time the last game rolled around, McCullar had his swagger on full display. He had his two dribble pull up going, left hand finishes at the rim, and his free throw line jumper he used effectively. McCullar also displayed solid man-to-man principles and caused turnovers in one-on-one situations in the open floor. If the improved defensive play I saw during the course of the weekend continues all summer with his already potent offense, watch out.
Jonathan Reed (6’2″ / Showtime Elite 17U / 2021)
Reed provided some leadership and ballhandling for the Showtime Elite 17U team at the Prep Hoops Tune Up. The unsigned senior also provided a lefty three point threat that knew how to read possessions and slide to open spots for opportunities to shoot. Reed is a guard that does not mind rebounding either. Showtime Elite went undefeated on the weekend and his contributions on the offensive end and the boards helped make that happen.
Justin Callahan Justin Callahan 5'7" | PG Jonesboro-Hodge | 2022 State LA (5’10″ / O.W.E. Travel / 2022)
Callahan is as tough as they come as an on ball, man-to-man defender. He is short but strong and is able to make offensive players do what he wants them to do. Offensively, he gets into the paint and absorbs contact while he attempts to finish at the rim. Callahan is a guard who O.W.E. depends on to disrupt guards offensively and change the pace of the game. He did this in spurts during the Tune Up and has the potential to make a difference in this role all summer.
Troy Cole Troy Cole 6'5" | SG Donaldsonville | 2022 State LA (6’4″ / Showtime Elite 17U / 2022)
Before an ankle injury curtailed him finishing their last game of the weekend, Cole was having himself a fine showing at the PH Tune Up. Cole is a do-it-all type of player. Whatever needs to be done, he can give it to you. Cole plays passing lanes well and is an outstanding perimeter defender. On offense, he scored on rebound putbacks, layups in the half court, and on transition layups. He can hurt a team in various ways and did so in helping Showtime Elite to an unblemished record.
Jordan Crawford Jordan Crawford 6'2" | CG Simsboro | 2022 State LA (6’2″ / O.W.E. Travel / 2022)
Crawford played the role of starter, sixth man, and defensive stopper during his weekend at the PH Tune Up. Even in those roles, Crawford only knows one gear and that is fast. He is excellent in the open floor and can finish with either hand. Crawford also pounded the offensive and defensive glass. He is athletic and a good rebounder for a guard. Crawford is able to play multiple styles of defense as well. He knows help positions in zone or man-to-man and is always in good position. He filled multiple duties well and should be an asset for O.W.E. throughout the summer.
Isaiah Howard (6’0″ / Showtime Elite 16U / 2023)
A first look at Howard with the ball in his hands and one would think he is an awkward kid who is kinda slow and he is not going to beat anyone off the dribble. What Howard has is some of the best court vision that I have seen in a while. He knows how to see his passes up with the dribble. Howard made perfect pocket passes and hit cutters with a couple of perfectly made behind the back passes. He finds people in the half court and in transition using his eyes and movements to deceive defenders. He is a player to watch at the point going forward.
Look for these players to travel with their respective teams as they continue to compete on the Prep Hoops Circuit throughout the summer.
