AJ Storr AJ Storr 6'3" | SG Kankakee | 2021 IL (Illinois Hoopstars 17U)
The new Illinois commit was fantastic all weekend in Lincoln. Illini fans sure hope he plays that way in the future when coming back against Nebraska in Big 10 play. The 6’6” wing has broad shoulders and a strong frame. What we liked most was the confidence he played with and how he was constantly in attack mode. The confidence he gained at AZ Compass really translated. He looked for his shot attacking off the bounce on straight line takes over and over. Power driver that has a great knack for finishing through contact. Got out in transition for scores. Shot it solid from deep, but not as good as he can shoot it. Shined on the glass with his ability to board on both ends for second chance points. Consistent performance by Storr in his spring debut with the Hoopstars.
Zach Cleveland Zach Cleveland 6'8" | PF Normal West | 2022 State IL (Illinois Hoopstars 17U)
While Storr might have taken the starring role it was Cleveland who had quite a buzz after the event. The skilled and athletic four man from Normal Community picked up an offer from Illinois State right in his back yard after a strong weekend. He fits the new age game to perfection with the way he can stretch it with his shooting from deep. He had a handful of threes in multiple games. Plus shooter with an effortless stroke, but is much more. The stretch four is a solid athlete that makes quick post moves and has touch in the paint. Also like how he goes after rebounds with two hands in traffic.
KJ Debrick KJ Debrick 6'7" | C Springfield Lanphier | 2021 State IL (Illinois Hoopstars 17U)
Debrick has already reclassified and will attend prep school next year in Texas as a 2022 recruit. The Springfield Lanphier giant center would most likely have a low-major scholarship after his senior season in a normal year. Brick wall in the paint as a defender at the rim with the way he goes straight up and makes it difficult for opponents to get shots off. High level area rebounder. Power post player that continues to improve his skill each time out.
Bryce Tillery Bryce Tillery 5'7" | PG Hillcrest | 2023 State IL (Illinois Hoopstars 16U)
Tillery is a smaller point guard that can score in bunches. The Hillcrest point guard put up points in their Saturday game we caught. Quick twitched lead guard has range on his shot and plays with a lot of speed. Should take over the reins at the point for the next two seasons for Hillcrest.
Keon Alexander Keon Alexander 6'6" | PF Bolingbrook | 2023 State IL (lllinois Hoopstars 16U)
Alexander went for 14 points and 7 boards in the game we caught. The 6’6” lefty four man plays with a super high motor. He consistently brings it game in and game out with his intensity on both ends of the floor. Rebounds well in and out of his area, mobile defender, and has agility on the defensive end.
AJ Williams (South Cook Jaguars 17U)
This Whitney Young shooting guard had a breakout performance scoring 22 points for the South Cook Jaguars in their finale in KC. The 6’2” guard shot lights out from all over the floor. Solid athlete with good length. One to track moving forward.
Byron Hobbs (South Cook Jaguars 17U)
Hobbs also made his presence felt in the last game of the event. The explosive slashing wing has slick handles and got out in transition for an array of scores. Hit the offensive glass for put backs and nailed a spot up corner three.
Mekhi Doby Mekhi Doby 6'2" | SG Guilford | 2023 State IL (Team 815 North 17U)
Doby broke out the previous weekend in Louisville and his fantastic play continued over to Nebraska. The rangy two guard shined in their Saturday game with his ability to put it on the deck with slithering drives while consistently finishing through contact.
