Hoopstars 17U Fall to Nebraska Supreme
The morning began with the Illinois Hoopstars suffering their only loss in their 4-1 weekend as they fell to Nebraska Supreme 72-62. It was another strong performance for new Illinois commit AJ Storr. The 2022 6’6” wing continued his monster productive weekend by hitting deep threes, throwing down transition dunks, and getting to the rim finishing and-1s. Has a knack for finishing through and absorbing contact at the rim. He really excels in the open floor as a finisher. The stock with Normal Community 6’7” forward Zach Cleveland continues to go up. Overall skill set is impressive at his size being able to score inside and out. Plus passer for a four man and is a solid rebounder. Low-majors and mid-majors should be keeping tabs.
Buddy Buckets 17U Trio Lead Way
Nice weekend for Team Buddy Buckets 17U in Lincoln. Their trio of stars stepped up in their 84-64 win on Sunday morning. They have two fire throwers in the backcourt with JV Seat and Ethan Scott. Each can let it fly from deep and were consistent throughout the event. In the game we saw Sunday Scott had 20 points while Seat went for 15 points. Another one to watch on this squad is angular lefty wing Kevin Overton. Slick small forward that can score from multiple levels and brings defensive versatility. Went for 15 points.
Parker Friedrichsen Parker Friedrichsen 6'4" | SG Bixby | 2023 State #165 Nation OK Has Next in Oklahoma
When you talk about high ceiling prospects at the event one that comes immediately to mind is 2023 Oklahoma native Parker Friedrichsen from the Tulsa Hawks. At 6’4” with a lot of projectability to continue to grow and a frame to add strength he is an ideal D1 prospect. Above average athlete with pop finishing around the hoop. So precise with his movements on the perimeter being able to knock in threes and set up his defender to get his shot off. He had 32 points against MPJ Elite.
South Cook Jaguars Impress in Finale
We caught the South Cook Jaguars in the last game on Sunday. The Chicago based team has quite a few sleeper prospects and several we hadn’t even seen before that made an impression in their 84-63 win. On the interior Leo 2022 6’8” center Devon Richardson was a beast on the glass. He gobbled up every single rebound while showing a nice combination of nimble footwork and power on the interior for 10 points. Mt. Carmel point guard Phillip Jones put it on the deck with toughness for 12 points. A duo of Whitney Young wings shined for the Jaguars. AJ Williams is a 6’2” two guard that we were not aware of before the game. That changed as he netted 22 points including an array of threes along with showing nice athleticism off the bounce. Matt Somerville from Whitney Young is a 6’6” wing that has super bounce and deep range on his shot. He went for 13 points. Lindbloom 2022 wing Byron Hobbs had a nice performance. Ran the floor hard in transition, explosive slashes, got on the offensive glass, and hit a corner three.
