Here’s a look at some of the top 15U shooters in Lincoln last weekend (in alphabetical order):
Ben Carlson, guard, Minnesota Chill Elite:
Carlson was a key contributor handling the ball and defending for the Chill this weekend. But his strongest suit is his perimeter shot. He hit several long 3s, stretching the defense and opening things up for his teammates. He isn’t tall, so he needs a little space, but he’s always ready to pull the trigger. Defenses can’t sag of and always need to know exactly where he is.
Spencer Coup, guard, SSA Hoops Elite Black:
Coup is a deadeye from the perimeter, and showed it off all weekend. His work culminated in a 20 point effort in SSA Black’s last game. He’s a deft ball handler who can get his own shot, but is equally good at floating on the perimeter for catch-and-shoot opportunities.
Logan Ewing, guard, 816 Varsity Whited:
It was a rough weekend for the shorthanded Whited club. They fought through the adversity, playing hard and putting in a ton of minutes since they didn’t a have much by way of a bench. Ewing showed off his stroke, which wasn’t easy to do when fatigued all weekend. He buried a couple of long bombs against SSA Hoops Elite White in one of the early games to put everyone on alert to what he can do.
Devin Holman, forward, SAL Elite:
Holman consistently knocked down shots all weekend. In his most productive game he scored 27 against SSA Hoops Elite White. But his three-point stroke was on in just about every game SAL played. He hit four triples against Lincoln Supreme 2025.
Derrick McGee, guard, KC Running Rebels:
McGee handled the ball like a champ and was a disruptive defender all weekend. But he was sneaky good from behind the arc too. He’s slippery and quick, penetrating into the lane on the drive, then floating back out to catch and shoot. He’s not a big guard, but he knows how to find openings. Defenders have play off him on the perimeter because will blow by them in a flash.
Honorable mention:
Chuck Love, forward, Lincoln Supreme 2025 (pictured):
The 8th graders from Lincoln were all so impressive, it’s not right to pick out just one shooter. But Love jumped off the stat sheet as a dynamite 3-point threat. He had six 3s in one game, and was a threat all weekend against the older opponents. It helps that he’s 6-foot-4, and also has the driving ability that keeps defenders off him.
