Continue ReadingLincoln Supreme 2025, a group of 8th graders, dominated the games they played this weekend at the Lincoln Live SZN Kickoff. Just about any member of that club could be named to the All-Tournament team. But since it doesn’t seem right to load the 15U all-star team with a bunch of 14Us, we’ll leave them off.
But look for an article devoted to those precocious middle schoolers from Lincoln soon.
Also, look for “superlatives” articles coming soon to highlight more of the stars from the weekend.
Here is the Live SZN Kickoff 15U All-Tournament Team:
Most Outstanding Player: Jacoby Mehrman, guard, South Dakota Network:
Mehrman displayed an impressive array of skills all weekend, leading the Network to an undefeated showing that culminated with an eye-opening win over South Dakota Supreme 1. The 6-foot-3 guard can play in the lane and guard bigs, but he can also handle the ball like a point guard and spark the break with his drive-and-dish skills. He can work the perimeter, knock down shots from deep, but he’s best when getting into the lane and finishing in traffic. He’s got a nice combination of skills and physical tools.
Jagger Cornell, forward, Columbia Supreme:
Cornell was consistently good all weekend for the up-and-down Columbia club. The 6-foot-2 wing/post from Harrisburg, Mo. has a smooth release on his mid-range jumper and his 3-point shot. He is an athletic big who blocks shots and rebounds in traffic. He can create his own shot with an array of moves, but he doesn’t dominate the ball. He’s a team-first passer and defender. Though not physically big, he battles for position against bigger posts and has the spring to go get a ton of rebounds.
Javar Galbraith, forward, MPJ Elite:
The 6-foot-4 post from Fulton, Mo. is a really impressive big man. He’s got a solid frame, but his large body doesn’t slow him down. He is athletic, going up for rebounds, moving well in the lane and running the floor. He showed an impressive ability to go coast-to-coast with the ball, finishing with authority on the move.
Gunnar Lym, guard, Lincoln Supreme 2 (pictured):
Defenses just couldn’t corral the 6-foot guard from Bennington. He has an impressive ability to knife through a defense and get to the hole. Bigger defenders can’t stop him from getting off his pull-up jumper. One of his best talents is the ability to stop and patiently allow defenders to fly by. Though playing with aggressiveness, Lym never gets out of control. His unimpressive physical stature belies his strength, explosiveness and toughness at both ends of the floor.
Brendon Tate, guard, Team Tru Vision:
An active and energetic defender, Tate was in ball-handlers’ faces all weekend. He got tons of steals and intercepted passes, disrupting everything. He is a dynamic handler in transition busting through defenses to create opportunities. He also showed off a really impressive array of jumpers all the way out. He was one of the most disruptive players all weekend.
Second Team:
Aman Kesete, guard, MPJ Elite
Keeon Marshall, guard, Columbia Supreme
Quientan McCafferty, center, SAL Elite
Carter Mick, guard, Lincoln Supreme 1
Camden Phipps, center, South Dakota Network
