With the LiveSZN Kickoff, The Grind SZN Kick Off, and Chi Town tip off in the books and the upcoming mega event the Prep Hoops Live coming to Kansas City this weekend, let’s take a look at some 2023 names to check out.
Dre Delort, 5’11 Point Guard, Manhattan High, SSA 2023 Black: Delort is a smooth operator and floor general with the ball. He can handle the ball against pressure, get guys into their spots, and is a really solid playmaker when getting down hill and into the gaps. Saw limited varsity action during the season behind a loaded back court, but was lethal in the JV ranks, and had a good first run in the Live SZN kickoff averaging a tad above 3 assists per game. Has good length in his arms and a knack for getting deflections on the defensive end.
Aiden Sullivan Aiden Sullivan 6'8" | PF Olathe Northwest | 2023 State KS , 6’6 Forward, Olathe Northwest, Team KC: The big bodied forward will be looking to improve his stock in the class and show his ability to be an inside out presence on the grassroots scene. He has solid footwork, ability to seal in the post, and can step out and knock a shot down or two. He has some rim protection ability, and going against some really tough bigs game in and game out on the grassroots scene should really help him round out his game.
Daron Davis Daron Davis 5'11" | PG Bartlesville | 2023 OK , 5’10 Point Guard, Caney Valley, Tulsa Hawks White: Davis is playing down in Oklahoma with the terrific Tulsa Hawks program, and is coming off a big time Grind Season Kickoff tournament. His team won a bunch of games down in Oklahoma City this weekend, and his tourney was highlighted with a 20 point, 4 assist performance over Team United Texas. A terrific overall offensive guard who can score from the perimeter and in the paint as well as kick to open shooters or dump off to cutters. He is poised to continue his huge spring.
Jackson Swartz, 6’5 Forward, Chaparral, Team Buddy Buckets-KS: Long athletic forward that has flown under the radar, but a strong spring and summer with Buddy Buckets-KS could be what the doctor ordered for Swartz to really pick up steam in this class. His energy plays, constant effort, and possession winning rebounds, put backs, and blocked shots should really bring a nice piece to their puzzle. The 16U group is starting to round out for Buddy Buckets-KS this spring, looking for Swartz’s size, hustle, and athleticism to make some noise in the upcoming weekends.
Malik O’Atis Malik O’Atis 5'11" | PG Shawnee Mission Northwest | 2023 State KS , 6’ Guard, Shawnee Mission Northwest, Team KC: A really solid guard who will turn into a nice contributer this upcoming year for the very good Shawnee Mission Northwest team. He has a little bit of everything in the game, solid catch and shoot kid, successful in transition with nice athleticism and finishes with both hands, and he gets it done on the defensive end of the floor as well. The Team KC 16U squad will help him showcase his ability both with the ball in his hands and pressuring guys on the perimeter.
