From a wide swath of schools in Kansas, SSA Hoops Elite 2024 -White will take some time to gel. They played well in their first outing, but then ran into a buzz-saw in an elite group of 8th graders from Lincoln.
Here are some impressions of SSA Hoops Elite 2024 -White from Saturday:
Keaton Hargrave, 2024, Abilene:
The 6-foot guard/wing plays with all-out energy. He drives the lane for jump shots or to dish to teammates. He also follows breaks and cleans up misses. He is a physical athlete who plays with fire and determination. He has the athleticism and ball skills to grab a rebound, push it up the floor, and get it to a teammate in good position.
Griffin Heger, 2024, Hugoton:
Aggressive on the attack at either end, Heger showed off a lot of different skills on Saturday. He can drive and dish or get off a jumper or runner in the lane. He can knock down the three-ball, and floats on the arc to make himself available. He is tough at the defensive end, battling in the lane for rebounds and getting his hands on a lot of balls.
Sylvester Jackson, 2024, Junction City:
Jackson is the most impressive big man on the club. He’s a smooth 6-foot-3 post who has a really nice turnaround hook and other nice post moves. He had to battle some powerful bigs on Saturday, and he was up to the test. Though he never looks like he’s working that hard, he makes a lot of plays on the glass and in the lane. He has a nice jumper and turns either way in the pivot to get his shot off. He collected a lot of rebounds on Saturday, both in the half court set and in up-tempo action.
Alexis Jimenez, 2024, Hugoton:
A 5-foot-10 guard, Jimenez showed his poise and maturity with the ball. He has a great handle, even when closely guarded. He can push the ball through traffic and creates break opportunities. He is aggressive in the open court and can score in a variety of ways, including with a one-handed runner in the lane. He’s best at finding his teammates and keeping things under control.
Dusty Monroe, 2024, Wamego:
Monroe is a gritty defender who never backed down Saturday. He intercepted passes and pushed the turnovers up the floor aggressively. He has his eyes up, trying to help teammates find opportunities. He demonstrated a lot of toughness on fearless drives into traffic.
Thomas Patton, 2024, Free State:
Patton is a lanky 6-foot-2 forward who has really good hands and awareness on the court. He battled a lot of bigger men in the lane, blocking some shots and pulling down his share of boards. He’s best at the catch-and-shoot game, running the floor to find open spots for his smooth jumper.
