The Hustle Season Kickoff took place from Saturday, March 27th through Sunday, March 28th, and featured 45 programs ranging from 15 to 17U. The event also featured several guys that could straight up shut people down. In this article, we take a look at the top defenders from the event.
Jacques Williams Jr Jacques Williams Jr 5'9" | PG Arbor View | 2022 NV 5’9 PG Hard 2 Guard 2022 (#34PHN 2022) (featured image) – I’ll take JWJ’s on-ball defense any day. Williams has molded himself into a player that can completely disrupt opposing teams’ gameplans. It starts with a simple willingness and is combined with good lateral quickness, a high IQ, and good instincts. He has solidified himself as one of the top overall defenders in the state of Nevada.
Malachi Murrell 6’2 SF Gamepoint 2022 (#112PHSC 2022) – As always Murrell was long, versatile, and athletic. Those tools alone, were enough to allow him to defend multiple positions and cause havoc with his deflections. Murrell is an intriguing prospect because of his freakishly long wingspan which allows him to play taller than his 6’2 height.
Quentin Bohoman 5’9 PG Lathrop Thunder 2023 – Loved Bohoman’s aggressive on-ball defense. The type of player good for a few floor slaps before a defensive possession. Bohoman harrassed ballhandlers forcing them into several mistakes.
Jaden Baddu 5’6 PG WCX¨HITS Academy 2023 – Baddu was all over the court this weekend. He provided the defensive spark, helping Hits go 4-0. He was a demon on ball and didn’t mind sacrificing his body against hard-driving opponents.
Robert Gibson Robert Gibson 6'4" | PF Durango | 2022 State NV 6’4 PF West Coast Select 2022 (#32PHN 2022) – Gibson is one of the best glue guys in Nevada, and he showed it this weekend. The forward was always ready to slide over to help a teammate. He battled down low and showed that he can fluidly hedge and switch ball screens.
